Small DIY shop on corner of Dunstans and Forest Hill Road (near Herne pub, opposite gated entrance to Peckham Rye) usually sells sledges etc.

Sledging - def Horniman Gardens (so many childhood memories there!). Also the Horniman sandpit park, Sydenham Wells Park and Hilly Fields (SE4)

Def the Hornimamn! But watch out for the empty paddling pool/whatever it is at the bottom. Always end up in there.

Not sure there's enough snow - but see you there...

And yes the DIY store around the corner from us (Dunstans/Forest Hill Road) has sledges (and saw shovels in Sainsburgers) - not sure if DIY store is open today - there's always t-trays

Hi - has anyone had a chance to check out if the Horniman slope is open? On the link which Fuschia posted, it says something about meadow field being closed, but I don't know if that's the slope or not! Maybe the first person who checks it out can post on here? (It's a long trek for us!)

Only just got back (and have still left OH and eldest out there) and it's heaving with kids (big and small) up at Horniman.

Snow's nicely compacted now so it's getting faster (was a bit boring first thing getting stuck in the freshly driven stuff).

Not many staff on at the cafe though - they won't know what's hit them come the lunchtime rush.

Now about to stoke up the barby (OH is Aussie so mid winter bbqs are a regular, if insane, thing) for toasted marshmallows.

Yummmmmmm.

    • You may be assuming I will soon get round to doing this. Unfortunately it is presently not near the top of my extremely long "to do" list 😥 However I now know what to do when I feel the urge to take action, which is great! It  could be one of the random things I suddenly start on when I get fed up with the more important and/or urgent things .....
    • But the second weekend mentioned is a free community event? Horniman gardens often have events. At least, I have been to several in the past. I wouldn't have thought the green area of the park at Telegraph Hill was big enough?
    • Paul just did my bathroom, very swift and neat job and I would highly recommend. I got a few quotes and his was the cheapest as well.
    • It would be a relief if that is the case but GALA, at least, have a vested interest in expanding the event to more than one weekend; with all the infrastructure in place it makes financial sense for them to get more use out of it.
