born&brED
Small DIY shop on corner of Dunstans and Forest Hill Road (near Herne pub, opposite gated entrance to Peckham Rye) usually sells sledges etc. Sledging - def Horniman Gardens (so many childhood memories there!). Also the Horniman sandpit park, Sydenham Wells Park and Hilly Fields (SE4) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21838-sledging/#findComment-520399 Share on other sites

largeginandtonic
Hi - has anyone had a chance to check out if the Horniman slope is open? On the link which Fuschia posted, it says something about meadow field being closed, but I don't know if that's the slope or not! Maybe the first person who checks it out can post on here? (It's a long trek for us!) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21838-sledging/#findComment-520429 Share on other sites
ryedalema
I think - given that both girls are nutella-ed up and have pulled him indoors out of his pit to see the fox tracks in the back garden - that it won't be long until we're up there :)Will report back... ryedalema
Only just got back (and have still left OH and eldest out there) and it's heaving with kids (big and small) up at Horniman.Snow's nicely compacted now so it's getting faster (was a bit boring first thing getting stuck in the freshly driven stuff). Not many staff on at the cafe though - they won't know what's hit them come the lunchtime rush. Now about to stoke up the barby (OH is Aussie so mid winter bbqs are a regular, if insane, thing) for toasted marshmallows.Yummmmmmm. Coach Beth
Just got back from sledging on Peckham Rye on the slope opposite Harris Boys school - lots of fun! And thanks to the two Dads making the igloo - my son had fun helping out and the final creation was impressive!
