Hi all

We're planning to do a road trip around New England this Autumn.

Has anyone done this?

Particularly interested in ideas for specific areas, and motels / B&Bs if you can remember them.

We're planning last week of September and first week of October, landing in Boston and hiring a car for 2 weeks.

All advice, opinions and help gratefully received!

Woodstock New Hampshire and Stowe Vermont are in scenic areas, maybe not key tourist places but they're on scenic routes. I toured there in a car as a passenger a few years back, I'm sure the scenery's the same tho !

Camping is great in that area. Motels with vibrating beds, good restaurants, maple syrup.

I'm desperately trying to remember the name of the lodge I stayed in a few years ago in Stowe, Vermont but it's escaping me. There were lots of lovely looking places there though and the little town was picturesque. We went to a place where they made cider (forgetting that in the US, proper cider is hard cider) so were a little disappointed. And the other thing near there is the Ben & Jerry's factory which was fun to go round. Beautiful part of the world though particularly if you travel on the highways rather than freeways (not that there are lots of them up that way) and stop in smalltown America for a bit.

Would suggest a trip along the Maine coast too from Boston. Again gorgeous coastline and lots of lovely restaurants with very cheap, very fresh lobster. Plus it's always amusing to see lots of streetsigns pointing the way to Scarborough and Yarmouth.

Thanks Applespider for this. Indeed we intend to do a blue highways / non freeways road trip.

We did a road trip round USA without touching too many freeways, and hardly touched big towns, preferring to do small towns. But we deliberately left out the north east / New England area as we knew we would want to do this trip on a separate occasion. If you think of the place in Stowe, get back to me!

    • Seconded. Called this morning after reading this recommendation. He sent Andy round who diagnosed, checked and fixed a leaky shower. Very fairly priced, £124 for call out, materials and a good hours work. I’m delighted.
    • I've looked up previous media coverage and gather that the school warned pupils of the risk of police 'fines' for assembly under the extant Covid regulations.  Don't you think they might have felt it a duty, to both pupils and parents, to do so?
    • I'm glad that Barry's have posted.  Their mention of the merger soon led me to (a) bushy-tailed  PR guff about the new member joining the inpost 'family' and promising a bright happy world of lockers etc ahead. and (b) clear signs that the same problems related here seem to have been current and widespread even three months ago.  That's just from looking at one thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/vinted/comments/1nlv3u2/yodelinpost_merger_issues/
    • @first mate not aware of any either. Found this relating to 23-24..  https://services.southwark.gov.uk/southwark-creates/funding/cultural-celebrations-fund?chapter=4
