Our 23 m old suddenly today started climbing in and out of his cot bed. So we've taken his bed apart and he is on a mattress on his floor (long story, but short story is we couldn't work out how to turn it into a bed) As I type I can hear him banging at the stair gate at his door shouting "mummy, mummy, mummy."

Any tips on what the **** I should do to try and get him to sleep??

I tried lying next to him and pretending to sleep but he just thought that it was very very funny.

Damn

Well, that sounds pretty good to me. It should work, but it's probably going to take some time. Is there room for you to put a small cosy chair next to his bed? When you put him to sleep for the night, then sit in the chair until he falls asleep. It could take a while. Maybe make sure he's very, very tired if you can. Then next week move the chair half way to the door. Following week move the chair next to the door. Next week, just stand by the door. Is this making sense? These types of sleep solutions are often known as behavioural "fade" techniques, and they are generally very effective with long lasting results. We did something similar with Little Saff when she was around 9 mo, to get her night wakings down from 5+ to around 1-2. I think there are forumites who have done similar with children your age too, so maybe can give you more advice. I have great sympathy with you! My daughter is so tall, she could climb out since 13 mo, argh!!

RE: the cotbed... what make is it? If someone else had a similar design, maybe they have trouble-shooting advice for making into bed? xx

    • Another recommendation for Jason who is brilliant all-round. He plastered our rooms and hallways (some walls were blown and needed re-boarding), replaced two ceilings and over-boarded one. From the start he was always communicative, happy to pop by to assess first, and transparent about the various options and their associated costs. He worked thoroughly, going above and beyond to make sure every job was finished to a high standard and is very fairly priced, particularly considering the hours he puts in. We’re so pleased with the results of our flat and have already recommended him unreservedly to others. Also helps that he is just a sound guy who’s really easy to chat to!
    • Well let’s put it this way - certainly alot more alert when I am in town than I use to be . Don’t feel unsafe just a lot more cautious and aware of my surroundings.  Tend to avoid walking anywhere in town as in London or Dulwich etc when it gets dark. Personal choice and certainly more people muttering or talking to themselves than before. Witnessed road rage years ago on Ladbrook Grove in broad daylight - memory still haunts me!!
    • Toad rage? Crikey, what have you done to upset the amphibians? How do you find the frogs? 😃
    • How long is a piece of string?  Depends whether you are building 'new towns' or brown field urban sites. I expect developers, planners and builders know far more than we do.  Where are you getting your information about infrastructure from ?  Your comment on new reservoirs seems more relevant to population expansion and/or climate change.
