For two days running, my nine month old has been sick in the car. She has been otherwise fine, eating well and pretty much her usual self. I've had a suggestion that she may be travel sick.

I was car sick as a child but was always travelling with two smokers so I put it down to that!

What age has travel sickness appeared in your family? And any tips if you do have sufferers?

travel sickness started for both my daughters just before they turned 1. They suffer very very badly but we have it under control using Joyrides for my eldest (these have worked since she turned 3) and a prescription of Phenergan from my GP for my youngest. She was first prescribed this just before she turned 2 as you can't give over the counter medicine until they are 3. We have tried just joyrides for her but she has still been sick, whereas the phenergan seems to (touch wood) work every time.

Before the medicine they could be sick before we'd even reached the Old Kent Road!! Luckily we only use a car occassionally when going away for holidays or weekends, the rest of the time we try to use the train as they're both fine on trains.

I found it very stressful for a long time.

Thanks, clux. That does sound very stressful. Unfortunately we have a wheelchair user in the family so have to travel by car a lot. Although actually she has been sick again so I now think she has a bug. Still interested though to hear about travel sickness as I'd like to keep an eye out.

Lots of bugs going around at the moment - fluey and/or sicky things - we're all just starting to recover from two weeks of it. If I were you, I'd presume it's that.

But if it is travel sickness, in the long run when you come to change your car, you want one with a firmer ride, less sloping into the corners and cushioning by the suspension.

    • The BBC is one of the finest, if not the finest, broadcasters in the world.  They have been admired by many across the world for their journalism.  There have been numerous arrests since their recent expose on convenience shops that cover ups for criminals - money laundering, contraband,  illegal workers and the like. By no means perfect and some of what they have done in the modern world is questionable - the website often comes across as tabloid or sensationalist, as do some of their documentaries, and at times it is full of low grade game shows, fly on the wall etc which bring the punters and money, including overseas, in but is not quality TV.  In their desperation for 'balance' they've given too much air time and credibility to some more extreme views, which contributed to Brexit and some of the rise in right wing parties.  I wish they'd say 'the convicted criminal' every time they talk about Yaxley Lenon. The programme was clumsy, why it didn't go through proper clearance including the lawyers, I don't know.  But it created zero stir at the time. Zero.  And had no impact on the election, so Trump has no case.  I hope they don't cave in like many of the US corporations and media.  Oh and well done to South Park using the small p*nis defence in ridiculing him. What I expect is as the Beeb is pretty centrist in it;s reporting in riles some of those who thrive on the toxic populism we have seen since Trump mark 1 and Brexit.  How sad.
