There?s me thinking it was the delightful truffle hunting ground of Piedmont, one of 20 regions of the country which borders the Liguria region to the south, the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions to the east and the Aosta Valley region to the northwest, where in the autumn the delicious and much prized tuber is hunted out.

But no sadly, we?re talking up ?Piermont village? green, where people are more likely to take their dogs to be emptied, than dig up a truffle.

I used to live in a village, and I couldn?t think of any where with a less village like feel then this area, I live within walking distance.

We?re still in ?the shops? territory with this strip of retail property.

Bellenden Road has way more village credentials, with a butcher, a cafe or 4, a connivence store, and relatively safe street crossing. And it still gets derided.

Maybe it?ll stick in some people's mind, but it?s a stretch.

We shouldn't mock. One spring after a particularly wet winter, a couple of Mallards took residence in an impromptu pond by the 'big house', now if that isn't village life I don't know what is. Just needs a cricket team and a County Lines drug cartel and it's official...

    • IsĀ  theĀ  decision by the High Court not toĀ  deportĀ an Eritrean manĀ  to France on Wednesday anything other than a massive boost for Farage and reform. Farage has made a commitment for the UK to exit the ECHR which limits the independence of our justice system The UK Government’s ā€œone in, one outā€ has failed at the first hurdle - just as the Rwanda scheme did under the Tories. To make it even more embarrassing is that the accommodation for deporteesĀ  Ā in Rwanda paid for by the UK is now being used by the USA for its deportees. If we are to have Farage thrust upon us as a result of such judicial decisions, then God help us.
    • I recently hired Andy to paint the newly plastered walls in my front room, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From the start, he offered a fair and reasonable price for the work, and his professionalism really stood out. Andy has a wealth of experience and was happy to share suggestions about colour choices and paint types, which made the decision-making process much easier. He completed the work within the agreed timescale, and I am very happy with the finish.Ā  What impressed me most is that Andy went above and beyond what I initially asked. He not only painted the room beautifully but also helped with extra tasks such as putting up the wall bracket, curtain poles, and curtains, and even gave me a hand moving furniture between rooms. That level of support is rare and very much appreciated. If you’re looking for a painter and decorator who is reliable, trustworthy, reasonably priced, experienced, and willing to go the extra mile to help, I would highly recommend Andy.
    • John recently skimmed the walls in our front room lounge, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. From start to finish, he was professional, punctual, and easy to work with. Ā  He arrived on time each day and kept me updated on progress, which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. The quality of his plastering is smooth, even, and ready to paint with minimal prep. He takes real pride in his work. Ā  John was also very tidy, laying down protective sheets and cleaning up thoroughly after the job was done. It’s clear he respects his clients’ homes, which I really appreciated. Ā  On top of that, he’s friendly, approachable, and trustworthy someone you feel comfortable having in your home. His pricing was fair and transparent, with no unexpected costs. Ā  Highly recommended if you're looking for a skilled and reliable plasterer. I’ll definitely be using him again for any future work.
