I would like to come along to the next curry club and meet some locals of Dulwich and surrounding area..I understand booze is a nice mix with curry and bottles of wine will be happily shared on the table but I will be driving and soft drinks only for me..can I come if I pay for my consumed stuff..

Hi Mary. I am afraid that we have a long standing approach of evenly splitting the bill.

We have people drinking alcohol and soft drinks, we have veggies and carnivores, so trying to identify what people have had and should pay for becomes way too complicated.

This has never been a problem on the day as there is little difference in the overall cost

Soft drinks in some of the restaurants are similarly priced to a small beer.

I once paid ?3.70 for a bottle of mineral water where a small beer was ?3.95.

People have different starters / no starters ... Veggie curries / King Prawn ... Naan bread / no bread

and we often share food.

You get to eat what you want and we share the bill.. It works and we never have any problems..

Though I should say that sometimes (for example last meeting), we went somewhere that was 'bring your own booze' and we also went to a pub before and after, so (without being presumptuous as I have been once!)it seems any alcohol costs would be low (if at all) :-)

For instance what would happen if I had one meal and a soft drink and majority had 2 meals and 2 drinks..that's quite a difference in splitting the bill..say 5/10 pounds more..

On occassion people drive .. have 1 drink.. or stick to soft drinks.. and still share the bill.

Just to clarify.. We only split the bill + tips in the restaurant..

We pay for our own drinks in the pub pre-meal / post meal. and you do not need to come to the pub.

Some people meet in the restaurant.

We share some dishes.. like rice .. naan bread.. side dishes.. Popadoms ..

Everyone just tucks in.

We get 1 bill for the night in the restaurant. It has all the starters, mains, side dishes, bread, drinks.

Michael P. then works out the bill after adding an appropriate tip and divides it amongst those present.

That's how it has been for 8 years Curry Club has been going.

OK, summer is upon us (as I peer at the leaden skies) and the Curry Club is going on its summer break.

So, this (July) CC meet is cancelled and we will re-convene in September or October.

Is there general interest? I am happy to organise but it does need people to be willing to come along.

The next one could be the first Thursday of October.

I think I can do either of the first two Thursdays of October at the moment.

I can do any day at any time except every other Saturdays between August - May.
