It's an old common scam.

Your Internet and I.P. has NOT been compromised (in Many Countries) as suggested.

You will NOT be arrested if you do not press (1).

Do Not Press (1) If you do you will be taken through a process that requests you to download

software that will interrogate you P.C. and steal you secure DATA. and possibly/probably you Bank Details.

Just clear down and get on with the rest of your day.

You have nothing to worry about.

I get this same Scam call 2 - 3 times a week. Often early morning 09.00am

Another one says Your internet will be disconnected today.

Press (1) to speak with the B.T. Technical Department.

B.T. NEVER contact its customers this way.

Had a scam call about 4 -5 weeks ago.automated message saying I owe inland revenue.?6000 .a warrant would be issued for my arrest if I did not deal with it.was given a number to ring .to speak to an adviser.couldn't resist it. Phoned number someone answered hello inland revenue.before they could say anything else, called them every swear word I could think of ,then they just hung up which I thought was very rude.

Yeh, I tend to ask them how much they are being paid to spout this crap, and tell them they should be ashamed of themselves :))

But I don't get many spam calls, maybe one a month on my mobile (that's tempting fate, isn't it .....) but then I have my landline on permanent voicemail, so they tend to hang up as soon as they get to the message ......

OMG , I was simply refering to that Grape you "sampled" in the supermarket the other day, I wasn't expecting a full confession Winston Smith style

"Idiot" oh you are suffering financial hardship that not good that I reply no it not good so ?2978 will be nice. He went on I do not know what to say so I put you through my manager. Next con artist on the phone so you suffering hardship if you give us your sort code and the account number we sent you the cheque by post. I reply can you please confirm my address it might I have gone to my neighbour for all I know the first cheque sent. He replied we do not have your address mam I replied you fool forgot what you doing scanning people I report you to scammer.com and the police he hangs up the phone.

if you look for reporting a scam online there are websites where you can report a scam

If I get a real person...

Car accident scams; I tell them I was involved in a car accident and I know who was driving the car, but don't know if he lives in Florida or Paris - it was a clown car and all the doors fell off. I ask them if they know where Mickey Mouse lives. They hang up.

Or just ask them "Is that Aunt Sally? What do you want for tea?" etc. They hang up.

I'm wondering whether you are more than one-dimensional TB. It's easy to mock the middle classes, I do, and that includes being self-deprecating. Some posts on this website are so fingers down the throat East Dulwich and pompous it is difficult not to.

But would it be too much to ask to add some value to the debate rather than sarcasm? I've been abusive, hung up, tried to teach them the errors of their ways and the like with scam calls. There, I have an opinion. Do you? To take them through to the point of sale and then suggest they get a job where they are not exploiting vulnerable people may not matter a jot but at least I try to do something. https://fatherted.fandom.com/wiki/Father_Jessup

  • 1 month later...

I had one of those automated accident hotlines just called

The ones that start with a pause, a lady saying hello, a pause then my name is "whatever" I understand you've been involved in an accident (a recorded message)

I started yelling yes I've been in an accident over and over till her "supervisor" took over who asked what happened and I cried down the phone saying a Lorry has just run me over and the ambulance crew are there now and are talking about cutting limbs off to get me out from under it

Screamed and hung up

Suspect I'm now blacklisted on that number 👍

Thanks for opening this thread Lynne. I have just receive an email from my own email address telling me that I have hacked my own email and malware will collect info from my account and a ransom should be paid blah blah blah I just skimmed through the text and thought i should take this to the police , I am so fed up with receiving stuff like that and i also keep getting emails from my dead friend with a link in it from Youtube.
I used to get contacted by solicitors telling me I would be taken to court for unpaid debts by tenants. I said good, particularly as I didn't have a contract with the utility at that address. Otherwise to stop sending me threatening quasi-legal letters. It wasn't a scam but I am reminded of that.

    • It's hard to believe that in 2024, we're still seeing countless posts about lost kittens, heavily pregnant & missing cats, abandoned litters & strays struggling to survive. Every photo of tiny, helpless kittens found in bushes or by the roadside is a painful reminder of a problem that's entirely preventable. It doesn't have to be this way. We've come too far to still be facing these avoidable tragedies. Spaying & neutering is not just a suggestion, it's a responsibility. It protects our felines from a host of health & behavioural challenges. I want to take a moment to share why this is critical; Overpopulation Crisis Thousands of cats & kittens already wait in shelters for a second chance. Unplanned litters only add to these heartbreaking statistics, with many never finding homes. Not all shelters have a non-destruction (no-kill) policy. Health Benefits Spaying eliminates the risk of uterine infections & drastically reduces the chances of breast cancer/mammary tumors in females. Neutering prevents testicular cancer & reduces the likelihood of territorial marking & aggression in males. Reducing Strays Fewer unplanned litters means fewer strays & feral cats living on the streets, where they face dangers like cars, predators & disease. Did you know that strays have a lifespan of 2-5 years? Supporting Local Ecosystems Furthermore, feral & stray cats can unintentionally discrupt local ecosystems by hunting birds & small mammals. By spaying & neutering, we can reduce this impact while also ensuring that feral cats are cared for through managed colonies. Improving Community Wellbeing Neutering helps control roaming & fighting among intact males, creating safer & calmer neighbourhoods for everyone. If you or someone you know has recently purchased, adopted or found a kitten or stray, make it a priority to reach out to your vets or connect with local organisations like Celia Hammond Animal Trust, Cats Protection or Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives in your area. Many offer free or low-cost spay & neuter services, ensuring this lifesaving option is accessible to all. Most professionals recommend kittens be spayed & neutered at 4 months. All kittens should be spayed & neutered by the time they hit 6 months. Kittens should not be given access to roam outdoors until they have been spayed or neutered, as kittens can get pregnant as early as 4 months { !!! } East Dulwich is a cat-loving community, whether we have a little lion of our own or not, we tend to take the initiative to post what we believe to be missing cats, but the greater issue is that many cats are not being spayed or neutered. So please, let's sow the seed of change for 2025 & educate our friends, family & community on the importance of spaying & neutering our cats, & put an end to overbreeding.   Thank you x
