I've been looking for destination Indian Restaurants mainly on the train from East Dulwich.

I fancied a ride out today. I got the P13 to Streatham knowing that the Train from Streatham goes to East Dulwich.

Did not find any Indian Restaurants near the Station so got the train back to East Dulwich

We got delayed at Tulse Hill where the Driver told us we were being held on a Red Light with no known reason.

Suddenly there was a tremendous thundering noise as a Magnificent Steam Locomotive pulling several

Very smart Pullman Coaches came through next to our train.

It may well of come through East/North Dulwich. Did anyone see it ? You would of definately heard if it had.

Website of the scheduled steam tours. The Belmond (which is almost certainly what you saw) is based out of Victoria. If you're ever going through a station and see an unusually large crowd of people all with cameras and phones at the ready, chances are there's a steam train due through!

London Underground do similar trips on a vintage tube train, usually out of Moorgate / Ealing Broadway.

And finally, curry in Streatham, go to Taj Mahal, Leigham Court Road. More or less opposite Streatham Hill station which means a change at West Norwood if you're travelling to / from East Dulwich.

I did go to the Taj Mahal in Thornton Heath near the station.

I had driven past it many times and thought I would try it.

It was like going back 40 years. The elderly owner ?? had been there 30 years.

D?cor was from the 70's and would probably cost a lot of money back then.

Hygiene rating of 4. Everything was just old but nothing seriously bothered me.

Food was nice.

It was very cheap. With bottled Kingfisher at ?2.85

I was there at 8.00pm - 9.00pm and it was very quiet with people arriving who appeared to be regulars.

I had Chicken Madras which was very Good but there was something very 1975 ish about it.

Metal Bowls ?? Most places these days use White 'Porcelain' dishes which I personally do not like

because they do not conduct and hold the heat so the food goes cold.

Also food warmers with tea lights.

Elderly owner was Very pleasant.

We had a good chat and he was very impressed that I had travelled from East Dulwich.

Will be researching more places around south London

Sadly not any more, today was the last run on the underground as the signal upgrade has put paid to using steam trains 😰

The P13 goes directly from outside The Great Exhibition to Streatham Hill Station.

    • "Levels of racist attitudes have declined in recent decades, although structural disadvantages persist and hate incidents continue. Studies published in 2014 and 2015 suggested racist attitudes were on the rise in the UK, with more than one third of those polled perceiving they were racially prejudiced." This no doubt doesn't mean that all are racist, but it is still a sizeable number. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_the_United_Kingdom
    • It's what they need to charge given high rents, staff wages and other costs. I strongly doubt they'll be making much profit even charging £30 for a rotisserie chicken.... in 2025. Rotisserie Jules used to charge £14 ish I think before covid, the sector is in a lot of trouble these days. Lots of places will end up closing as the economics don't work.
    • Hi Malcolm, thanks for the recommendation. Would you say Jovaner is someone who usually works from drawings and architects specifications or can he do some of the design work himself? Scale-wise, would you say he is well-suited to room refurb or also to do full builds from scratch? Sorry for the specific questions but that would help me assess what sort of work I could use him on! Many thanks.
    • Hi, I am in Nunhead Lane, close to Peckham Rye common. I have a bucket full if you want to come and rummage:) (free of course)   Veronica
