Barclays in Lordship Lane is getting worse. Today there was only one cashier and a very long and unmoving queue. There were three staff members on the floor, and each customer was told to stay in the queue as the machines could not deal with their particular transaction. One of the staff said that 50% of people were happy with the changes - and got several irate responses.

Its dreadful!

They closed Forest Hill and Dulwich Village so its the only branch for SE21/22/23 its an utter joke. I've waited 30mins the other day. there is rarely more than 1 till open and I really pity the staff there tbh.

what kind of muppet decided to leave only 2 counters open during the referb knowing that two other nearby branches are closing?

I'm wondering if it may be worth contacting Barclays head office to complain?

It?s deliberate to drive people to online and mobile banking (doesn?t help local traders depositing cash).

I?m waiting for all the banks to start charging a small percentage on each contactless transaction - that?ll make them squillions as you spend your own money (maybe a year or two away yet when everyone?s hooked).

I received a new bank card last year (not Barclays) and the accompanying brochure that detailed the bank?s fees had the entry under contactless transactions ?fees not currently charged?.

Ominous

I was queuing for ages in there recently so asked the man who was walking around asking what we wanted to do why only one till was open. He said they were short staffed as two members of staff hadn?t turned. He was the manager of another branch who had been drafted in ?to help.? I asked why he wasn?t doing something useful, like open the second till, but that, apparently, isn?t part of his job. He then welcomed a young man who had arrived from another branch and would open the second till. A good 5 minutes later I asked the manager again when the 2nd till would open and was told the young man was just about to do it. He was rather bemused when I pointed out the young man was helping someone at the machines! At this point a miracle occurred and a member of staff who always works there opened the second till! What a shambles.

Definitely avoid the machines. Especially the one facing LL if you are not tall. Took my card three times, eventually they admitted that the machine and its camera are too high up to capture the faces of smaller persons properly. So the machine decides that if it can't see your face, you must be hiding it, and up to no good, so it retains your card.

Barclays has obviously known this for some time but has done absolutely nothing about it. Eventually they gave me ?25 in compensation which in no way made up for the embarrassment of not being able to give someone the cash I had just promised them!

Peckham Pam, perhaps you should ask for compensation as they know this is going to keep happening.

That machine took my card just before Christmas last year, was distraught even though I had a bit of ready money at home. Interestingly though I went to the big Barclay's branch in Piccadilly Circus, and they gave me a new card there and then. Was in and out in about 25 minutes.

I went into Barclays on Friday and when I eventually reached the counter I asked to withdraw ?1,000. The cashier said that the machines dispense up to ?2,000 so why not go and try one. I explained that I didn't want to count that amount over there, and preferred her to count it behind glass and pass it to me, which she did.

She said that we should trust the machines to dispense the correct amount and if customers want to count their money from a machine they are directed to sit down next to where the back end of the lengthy queue was standing, which is also near the door.

    • Where did I say he did a good job? Yup and Corbyn was very close to Len McCluskey and funded by Unite wasn't he...they're all as bad as each other... Labour have to purge their party of the far-left - they're a disaster. Allan Johnson summed it up so well on election night in 2019....
    • Thank you for the detailed advise @trinidad It is definitely damage we are concerned about. I don’t think Evri would agree to pay the bill to fix our gate or letter box if they were to be damaged as a result of their delivery drivers helper. Our doorbell can be heard from outside when rung so we don’t quite believe the aggressive simultaneous door/letter box banging is necessary. It can be quite a shock it is done very aggressively.  I’ll definitely action the steps you’ve kindly provided along with a phone call tomorrow. I do sympathise with the role drivers have and how busy they are, which is why we tried communicating directly with her but sadly we haven’t succeeded
    • What outcome would you like? Disciplinary action? Not to have the driver back? Retraining? I know there is alot of pressure on drivers to deliver within a set day. if he slams the gate, is it evidence he is causing damage, or is the noise a irritant to yourself? You could put a sign up or buy a signing asking to close the gate gentle???? can you hear the door bell from the door? he might be ringing, not hearing and therefore knocking. In trhe notes section of the be livery page, there is a note section, although there is not 100 per cent these notes would be read as these drivers are constantly rushing.  I did a google search for you, i found this and you can try the envri website Contact Us | Evri   To complain to Evri, you can follow these steps: Contact Customer Service: Call Evri's customer service at 0330 808 5456 for assistance with your complaint.    1 Write a Letter: Address your complaint to Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS27 0WH.    1 Use the Official Website: Visit the Evri complaints page on their official website for detailed instructions on how to submit a complaint.    2 Email or Call for Specific Issues: For issues like missing or damaged parcels, you can email or call 0800 988 8888, which is free to call.    1 These methods will help you effectively communicate your concerns to Evri.   My driver is called anthony, he is brilliant to be honest. I cant fault him.
    • When I have more time and energy, I will look up the actual number of votes cast for each party in that election, rather than the number of seats won. I'm interested to see that you apparently  think that  Boris Johnson did a good job of "leading the country through Covid." Is your memory really that short? I won't stoop to calling Johnson and his cronies names in the way that you seem to think is appropriate for left wing politicians. At least the left wing politicians have some semblance of morals and a concern for people who aren't in some over privileged inner circle and/or raking in money for themselves on the back of an epidemic. I'm not going to open a can of worms on here  by commenting on the disgraceful so called "purge".
