lol...well i wouldn't say that...

I'm an old pupil of Alleyns and through their sports club (the edward alleyn club) i thought they had access to the schools sports facilities..and they have a big hall for badminton which i remember personally from many a game there 15 years ago..

Anyway i have emailed them to find out the score and will let you all know the result.

Yea, sorry I kind of started this renewal of the badminton thread and then Iven been so busy i havent been able to follow through. I am certainly willing to take part - I have been looking around onlines for places but Im not really sure of a destination. How about the Fusion leisure center? I dont know if they have the facilities. But you can count me in for regular badminton - I am willing to help out with whatever is needed.

hello all

I havent really been able to find the time to set this up - i was again away this weekend for a birthday celebration and I have had to worka bit much the past few weeks. I saw the fusion leisure center is nearby and that they do have the capacity for badminton but i havent been able to call them. Can anyone who was part of the badminton group from the past chip in here with some input on how things went? I think we should try and see if we can do something this upcoming weekend to just see what kind of turnout we can get and try and work out the kinks. Does anyone have any idea of the availability of badminton facilities around the area? How many interested parties do we have? I agree that we need to try and kickstart this so we can actually go somewhere with this. Its about time to play some badminton.

Hello all,

I think i may have found a solution. I had tried Dulwich Sports club, Jagsa and Alleyns without sucess but after checking with the Fusion place on Goose Green they said that there was another Fusion site in Camberwell Green that does it.

I rang them up and they do Badminton Mon-Sat at a cost ?8.65/hour for the hire of the court with no charges for number of people using it.

So if we got a doubles game going thats just over ?2 each for 1 hour. Sounds great to me! We can also hire racquets and shuttlecocks there if you don't have equipment.

So in reponse to what Nick wrote above, how abouts let try this weekend? Reply to this and we can see what numbers we get...

I think its only saturday though, they don't do it sunday.

Rgards,

Simon

We were using the Fusion courts at Waverley School. The problem is that a Fusion card purchased at East Dulwich does not allow one to telephone book at Waverley, so you need to make sure you take out your membership at the Waverley branch, or trog up there in person to book.

Courts are available in the evening, mid-week up to 9 pm, I think. Depending on what activities are taking place, there are two to four courts.

[i can't do this for a couple of weeks, but organise away and I'll join in at some point].

Hi Martell,

shame i couldn't join you for the jogging but maybe this weekend.

anyway, happy to hear you're interested in the badminton.

Thats 1 so far...

(To all: i did try Waverley but they sounded pretty heavily booked...Camberwell Fusion sounds easier to find spots...plus only need to jump on a 176/185 or 40 bus)

Hello all,

I have a court booked for this Saturday 18th from 11-12pm. There are 2 of us going at the moment so if 2 of you want to come and join us to make a doubles game, feel free to get in touch.

The address is Camberwell Leisure Centre, Artichoke Place, off Camberwell Church Street, London SE5 8TS

(or in google maps here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=SE5+8TS&ie=UTF8&ll=51.472669,-0.091195&spn=0.011815,0.033345&z=15 )

Kind regards,

Simon

My girlfriend, Cat, doesn't have a racquet, so does anyone know if they are available at our destination? I think more people can come if they would like and I can sacrifice some time if necessary. Its good to get as many people involved as possible. That being said, Simon has taken charge of this so its all at his discretion, I dont know much about where we are playing or anything.
She has said if she is bumping someone out she is fine with just coming next week or whatever. So Will, if you want to come say so and we can act accordingly. I dont expect this to be too intense for our first of what i hope is many more bouts of badminton, so the more the merrier i say.

Honestly Will, I dont know your situation, but if you want to come I almost think that may be a better foursome. My girlfriend is backing of her bold claims of abilities now that she has a place. That being said, if we dont hear anything on here before tommorrow she will come.

Aside from all that silliness, this should be good. Thanks Simon for organizing this.

    • Harrow.  I wish that I had done more before Covid, including putting my name forward as an executor and seeking power of attorney.  I performed the latter for my later mother, and with no executor named in her will I did probate and executed her will, all very straightforward as financial affairs all in order particularly due to the work of my sister who managed our mother's accounts. But from 2020 onward it was difficult to tell someone who was very frail she needed to change her will etc. There's a further tail about the 'friend' of my aunt who gets around 90% of the estate, and some manipulation of my aunt's finances by this friend.  Police wont get out of bed for a million or so for fraud cases so didn't go to them.
    • Is he local to South London? My father made his solicitor the executive. I, for many years had Lasting Power of Attorney to deal with all his finances including liaison with his bank and payment of his care home fees. I was also responsible for the sale of his home to release funds for care home fees. When he died, I notified the solicitor, obtained the death certificate and organized the funeral, cleared his care home of his possessions . Myself and my cousin were beneficiaries but my father had left a small sum of money to a man in the Midlands whose name was unknown to all of us including my step mother. It  took around 9 months for solicitor to establish that this gentleman had been deceased for a number of years . This obviously put additional charges onto the fees.
