The kids have finished school and the house has been rented out on Airbnb, so I'm off to the Fort for the summer in my caravan. I'll be offline apart from watching Stranger Things and OITNB. I'll be having a big fire every Friday if anyone wants to join me (I like the craft beer from the beer shop on LL).

I get my HETAS approved kiln dried logs from Log-a-Log in Shropshire. I'll be up at the Fort once I've got the caravan packed.

Mrs Bob will be joining me at the weekends once she has sorted our Airbnb lodgers out each week.

5* hostess I believe Bob. You must be very proud of the effort she puts in. All lodgers leave satisfied and happy. Tell her to keep it up.

It?s great renting four of our five bedrooms out on Airbnb during the summer, because the ?Rent a Room? Scheme lets you earn up to a threshold of ?7,500 per year tax-free from letting out furnished accommodation in your home. Someone has to be resident, hence why Mrs Bob stays there.

Mrs Bob. Such a trouper. Always sacrifices her needs for yours. At least she gets to join you at the weekend. Im sure she takes comfort in that Bob...

I'm finding this rather surreal. Can anyone explain. I understand that in Italy they pack up and go for the beach for the summer. And in Sweden they do similar because everyone has a cottage on the archipelago. I'm just confused about spending the summer on the ridge of the Great North Wood.

Last chance for a Friday night fire this week - I'll be coming back to ED on Sunday. I need to get the kids ready for school next week. The youngest is joining his older brothers at the same senior school, so they'll all be at the same school for 1 year until the eldest finishes the Upper 6th.

Is this a joke or are you really intending to light up a fire somewhere?

Seems very irresponsible to me. Just had a neighbour halfway down to me tonight start a bonfire and the smoke was quite acrid. I thought there was a fire stared somewhere as the smoke was choking.

    • He did mention it's share of freehold, I’d be very cautious with that. It can turn into a nightmare if relationships with neighbours break down. My brother had a share of freehold in a flat in West Hampstead, and when he needed to sell, the neighbour refused to sign the transfer of the freehold. What followed was over two years of legal battles, spiralling costs and constant stress. He lost several potential buyers, and the whole sale fell through just as he got a job offer in another city. It was a complete disaster. The neighbour was stubborn and uncooperative, doing everything they could to delay the process. It ended in legal deadlock, and there was very little anyone could do without their cooperation. At that point, the TA6 form becomes the least of your worries; it’s the TR1 form that matters. Without the other freeholder’s signature on that, you’re stuck. After seeing what my brother went through, I’d never touch a share of freehold again. When things go wrong, they can go really wrong. If you have a share of freehold, you need a respectful and reasonable relationship with the others involved; otherwise, it can be costly, stressful and exhausting. Sounds like these neighbours can’t be reasoned with. There’s really no coming back from something like this unless they genuinely apologise and replace the trees and plants they ruined. One small consolation is that people who behave like this are usually miserable behind closed doors. If they were truly happy, they’d just get on with their lives instead of trying to make other people’s lives difficult. And the irony is, they’re being incredibly short-sighted. This kind of behaviour almost always backfires.
    • I had some time with him recently at the local neighbourhood forum and actually was pretty impressed by him, I think he's come a long way.
