Hi All,

just thought I would share my experience so far with the Openreach Fibre/VSDL service that is in the area.

Open Reach have opened the wholesale market so its not just BT that sell the infinity product.

I took the service with Sky because its cheaper than BT and truly unlimited with no traffic management or acceptable usage policy and only a 12 month contract.

I live about 200-300 metres from the Fibre Cabinet was told I would get 40Mbps. Running several tests this is the case time and time again, so very impressed. Ive been looking at the Open Reach modem logs and it determines the maximum attainable is 91Mbps so im quite impressed and eagerly awaiting sky to release their 80/20 service.

If you are close enough the a shiny new cabinet then it will probably be the same for yourself if its speed that you need. Those that are quite far from the cabinets might also benefit from significantly increased speeds maybe not as high as 40Mbps but still a great deal than your current speed. :)

Most of Dulwich should be covered for BT Infinity (According to BT)

With 2 wire Copper. Normal Telphone Service and Broadband ADSL should work up to 3 miles from Local Exchange.

With BT Infinity, It will be Digital from Local Exch. to Cabinet in your road and the 2 Wire Copper into your home.

Normally in this area by Telegrapgh Pole.

All should be OK but I doubt you will able to get the 40mbs BT Claim.

The attenuation even 100-200 yards of copper will reduce this conciderably.

I think BT may well be offering Fibre to home at some point Infinity 2?

My biggest beef with standard broadband is that speed depends so much on the phone line from your house to the pole.

Of cource BT never admit that the line from my house is crap (yet everybody else I know it my street has no problem)

I am not "brushing stuff aside and pleading ignorance." I am truthfully saying when I don't presently know enough about something to be able to comment. I have always been very careful to try to  differentiate between fact and opinion in both  my posts and other people's, and I am not clear what your point is. And I am certainly not trying to wind anybody up. This is a forum. If you don't want to respond to my posts, that's up to you. I'm not sure why you feel the need to announce it.
    • @NewWave I know how you feel. Like you, I've lived and spent prolonged periods of time in some pretty crazy places and always thought I could handle a bunch of kids. But, no - they got to me and I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. That's what age does to us.  But I did engage with them, so bear that in mind.  My advice would be to never let anything like that stop you doing the things you love. I'm certainly not going to stop using the park, there's no way they get to take away our cherished spaces!  If you see them, just change tack and keep out of their way. My dog won't even go that way again, so that's that problem solved. (If I see them again, I'm going to keep taking photos from a safe distance).
