Concreting cellar floor

Recommended Posts

We all want dry cellars, but I'm afraid it's not quite as simple as ensuring the floor is watertight.

You can tank the floor with a waterproof render/slurry, however, you're just going to "push" the water elsewhere, and it will enter the cellar at the next lowest point - i.e. the base of the walls. This is solved by either digging drainage channels along the edges, or using an above-floor drainage (e.g. "DryTrak"). This then leads into a sump, where it can be pumped away. So, it's something of a specialist job.

    • Yes, I saw my first of the season a few days ago and now I'm seeing lots of them!
    • Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture,   ? Does your broadbrush bias extend to Welsh, Scottish and N Irish/Irish waiting staff also or is it only non-native speakers that you admire unconditionally?! Hospitality staff are a varied lot, as are their moods and attitudes at any one given time.
