Got a freelance job that has me office-bound for 3 months. My desk faces the wall and the strip lights above don't help.

By this time of day, my eyes are killing me. I look over to other parts of the office (next to windows) and it's a veritable oasis of daylight, and my eyes seem to like it better there.

So I wondered if a daylight lamp would help, at this rate I feel like I'm going to go blind, so it'd be worth the investment if they actually work, (and if they can compensate for nasty strip lighting).

Anyone experienced?

Rosie

I've got a vintage specimen lamp one on my desk, it's got a wotan/phillips daylight lamp inside

The light quality is way-way better than anything else and I wouldn't be without it now

Buy one for sure if the daylight is poor where you work

Rosie, through my work with visually impaired people I have done loads of lighting and low vision assessments, and yes, a daylight lamp can markedly improve a person's ability to see to read and do fine detailed tasks. Obviously you're not visually impaired, but if it works for them, I suspect you'd find them useful.

Don't go spending your hard earned, I have one sitting in a cupboard that I "inherited" p

    • Is this a popular event? If great demand for this sort of event on such a small space then so be it. It is just with Peckham Common so very close by just wondering why this is considered a preferable venue for this kind of thing?
    • Another recommendation for Jason who is brilliant all-round. He plastered our rooms and hallways (some walls were blown and needed re-boarding), replaced two ceilings and over-boarded one. From the start he was always communicative, happy to pop by to assess first, and transparent about the various options and their associated costs. He worked thoroughly, going above and beyond to make sure every job was finished to a high standard and is very fairly priced, particularly considering the hours he puts in. We’re so pleased with the results of our flat and have already recommended him unreservedly to others. Also helps that he is just a sound guy who’s really easy to chat to!
    • Well let’s put it this way - certainly alot more alert when I am in town than I use to be . Don’t feel unsafe just a lot more cautious and aware of my surroundings.  Tend to avoid walking anywhere in town as in London or Dulwich etc when it gets dark. Personal choice and certainly more people muttering or talking to themselves than before. Witnessed road rage years ago on Ladbrook Grove in broad daylight - memory still haunts me!!
