Nice meal at Il Mirto restaurant

We had a nice meal today at Il Mirto, the Italian restaurant at the Grove Vale end of Melbourne Grove. It had been recommended to us by some friends.

The place is small and homely, the food was fresh and delicious.

Good to know they do takeaways and deliveries - we took a printed menu to keep at home.

Agreed- lovely little place. Pizzas, whilst not in a stone oven, are very nice indeed, and fairly priced.

I havent actually tried much else, but no doubt its all pretty good. Feels like you are sat in someones front room, which is rather charming.

Their pasta is excellent.

We have never had a bad meal there.

Good to hear that other people feel the same about Il Mirto. It is slightly off the beaten track so please spread the word.

We think it's important to support independent local traders to stop them getting wiped out by the formulaic chains.

I used to use it now and again when I lived down that way. Don't often venture to that part of ED now, but I remember it being decent. Witnessed a few raging arguments in the kitchen, which I guess gave it a degree of Italian homespun authenticity...

Must go back soon. Having said that, i must also go back to Caravaggio in Camberwell soon as well. Decisions!

I like Caravaggio too. For some reason Caravaggio reminds me of the faded glamour of Venice, while Il Mirto reminds me of a rustic husband-and-wife restaurant in the mountains. (disclaimer - I'm not claiming either description is accurate, it's just the connection my neurons and synapses seems to have made).
