Hiya

Quick one looking for some advice from the experienced! Both me and daughter (15 months) have had nasty cough for over a week, I have nasty sore throat and earrache too and have wondered when she would get that part of this virus. This morning she wakes up with streaming eyes and nose and sneezing constantly, could this be a new cold or could this be hayfever?? The nose is literaly like a tap you can't turn off, not yellowy and mucusy but completely clear and constant. Her eyes are red and watery and she sneezes on and off all day, eye-rubbing etc as well and her nose is obviously stuffy and she is rubbing that too.

I don't have any experience of a baby with hayfever so not sure what to look out for, she does get plenty of colds but hasnt had something like this (usually lots of blocked noses, yellow gunk etc rather than streaming nose and eyes). She is under the weather anyway with this cough etc so I am thinking it might just be a new virus on top of that one. The thing that makes me wonder if its hayfever is that she has been outside all week at nursery so with the hot weather etc should I have expected to see symtoms before now? Also she woke up and was quickly like this but I hadnt taken her outside (although the windows were open).

Any ideas? Dont get it myself so not sure what to watch out for...

That certainly sounds like the symptoms myself and my son get with our hay fever. I've suffered since childhood, although every year is slightly different. My son started showing symptoms at 18 months. We seem to be allergic to the same things, and the last few days have been pretty bad so there's obviously something in the air!

I would see a GP, who at least could rule out other causes, and then may be able to suggest medicines suitable for a toddler. My son is 5 now, so we have quite a range of antihistimines available to us, but for under 2's it's quite limited.

Good luck. I have my fingers crossed that my other 2 children never get it!

Thanks Pickle, I feel really bad for her as it is clearly bothering her. I will try and pop along to the doctor tomorrow if I can get through :) I gave her some piriton this evening before bed. To be honest this cough is pretty nasty and I have been feeling rough for a couple of weeks with it so prob wouldnt hurt to get her checked over anyway as its a lingering virus obviously! HOpe she doesnt have hayfever...does that spell a whole summer of this!???

Not necessarily, I find mine fluctuates through spring and summer depending what pollens are in the air. My worst time is when the privet hedges come into "flower", horrendous, and impossible to avoid.

Mr Pickle has had hay fever this year, for the first time in his life. I went a couple of years with no symptoms at all, it's very unpredictable.

    • 🎄Are you flying solo for Xmas?   🎄Let’s be honest-it can be weird. But maybe it’s also a chance to just …chill.   🎄How are you planning to treat yourself and make the day feel good?   🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅All ideas welcome.    ✌️Drop yours below. 🎄🎄🎄
    • Until the licencing laws changed in the late eighties, pubs were only allowed to open Sunday hours on Christmas Day, so 12 'til 2, and the majority didn't open in the evening unless it was for a 'private party'. But that's another story. The landlord of my old local used to let everyone double or treble up at last orders so that you could avoid having to watch the Queen's Speech with your Nans at three o'clock. Dulwich Tandoori is open Christmas Day for those who don't fancy Gail's.  'Festive Flavours', apparently.
    • My nominations are the Goblin Band at the Goose, and the Errol Linton Trio  at the Dulwich Folk Club.  I'm not sure what other venues we have in the immediate area.  I rarely do the big (1000 plus) places any more.  Your nominations? And a special mention to Truthpaste, at least one member is local and their video was recorded around here.  But I caught them in North London.  And please see the link to the BBCs recording of the Copper Family at the Castle a few weeks ago~: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002ng53
