We're preaching to the unconvertible Bob.

"It seems you've done a bit of selective reading as clearly you haven't acknowledged the first sentence - "Sympathy is an extension of empathic concern"."

Look in a dictionary and they are clearly two different though thematically related concepts

Sympathy

Feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune.

Formal expression of such feelings; condolences

Empathy

The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

The wikipedia phrase you quote is essentially just meaningless waffle, it is wikipedia after all.

Anyway, my head is sore from the brick wall, I give up.

Oh I see.. You run into the room of strangers, you repeatedly tell them all how brilliant you are in the most ridiculous manner (as well as how stupid they are), then when they all tell you you're a tit - you play the victim?

Wake up and smell the coffee, man!

It's you. Take responsibility for the reaction YOU illicit in others.

As if I'm going to listen to a bunch of imbalance people. I say get over your low self-esteem issues as I much rather want to talk about football. Something that is sorely lacking in your posts.

Anyway, no amount of bullying will force me off the forum.

Other individuals don't have a problem with me and have had private messages giving support after seeing abuses targetted towards me.

I think the real issue is low self-esteem for people like Bob and co. Bob didn't exactly appeared in this thread to talk about in-depth football matters unless I'm seriously mistaken. Besides what gives him the right to tell me who I am or not? If he feels inadequate then seek treatment. I don't have any issues with people who are better than me on certain subjects. Why would I?

On behalf of my client Red Devil, I am writing to state that Red Devil wishes it to be known that he has not sent UDT a private message of support.

Should any fellow forumite allude to such a slanderous accusation, they will be served with the relevent writ.

Otta, I draw the line with football arguments over your nonsense that everyone hates Liverpool.

I'm not too concern. It's usually the same few individuals who feel they have a god given right to dictate what can be said on a forum.

She was saying that you're a troll UDT, keep up.

Going back a step, what I was asking UDT is, being as you think I know nothing about footballo, does that mean that all of my views about anything are automatically dismissed by you, or just my views on football.

Secondly, is there a UDT Football Exam that we can sit, in order to prove our worth in a discussion about this deeply complex subject?

I respect Jah Lush posts when he talks about football from a footballing angle. You're unable to do so. Can you see the difference? It has nothing to do with matching up to my high standards. You only trying to misrepresent the situation because you don't like me. That isn't my problem. It's yours and you really need to get over your lack of self-esteem.

Otta, no amount of bullying or misrepresentation is going to make me accept your poorly thought out views on football. It's my right if I choose what to accept. Get over it.

I think I'll be able to get over it. You still didn't actually answer my question, but that is hardly surprising.

Interesting you mention Jah, as I noticed that having predicted that Italy would win, Jah immediately posted along the lines of "ahem, I got that one wrong then". A good humoured post, that people appreciate.

Can you see the difference between you and Jah?

    • Per Cllr McAsh, as quoted above: “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution. " Is anyone au fait with the Clean Air Act 1993, and  particularly with the state of 'Smoke Control' law and practice generally?  I've just been looking  through some of it for the first time and, afaics, the civil penalties mentioned  were introduced into the Clean Air Act, at Schedule 1A, in May 2022.  So it seems that, in this particular,  it's a matter of the enforcement policy trailing well behind the legislation.  I'm not criticising that at all, but am curious.
    • Here's the part of march46's linked-to Southwark News article pertaining to Southwark Council. "Southwark Council were also contacted for a response. "Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets & Waste said: “One of Southwark’s key priorities is to create a healthy environment for our residents. “To achieve this we closely monitor legislation and measures that influence air pollution – our entire borough apart from inland waterways is designated as a Smoke Control Area, and we also offer substantial provision for electric vehicles to promote alternative fuel travel options and our Streets for People strategy. “We as a council support the work of Mums for Lungs and recognise the health and environmental impacts of domestic solid fuel burning, particularly from wood-burning appliances. “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.  “This work is being undertaken in collaboration with other London boroughs as part of the pan-London Wood Burning Project, which aims to harmonise enforcement approaches and share best practice across the capital.” ETA: And here's a post I made a few years ago, with tangential relevance.  https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278140-early-morning-drone-flying/?do=findComment&comment=1493274
    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.             The house was lived in until Feb 23, and has been allowed to get like this.
