Otta
I know South London has always been rubbish compared to North for live music, but can anyone recommend any pubs / bars / venues where they have seen new original bands playing? The Amersham Arms in New Cross was always a good one, but no idea if it still has live music, so if anyone has been there in the last year or so, that would be useful info.Basically, in our new(ish) band, 3 out of 4 of us are SE London based, and it can be difficult to drag your mates over to North London to see you (especially when your mates are lazy swines like mine), so would really like to do something this side of the river. Otta
Dirty South, good call. Had forgotten about them.Tried emailling The Hob, but think I'll just pop in there and have a chat. Have known the owner since I were a nipper, but don't think he's in there that often these days. KidKruger
You could try Tim at the Windmill, Brixton, he's the man who sorts the night there. He does various types of night.Just make sure everything you agree with him is double-agreed, then ratified just to make extra sure. Otta
Never heard of that one, cheers.Windmill was the one that immediately sprang to mind, along with Amersham Arms and The Hob. Will be looking in to all of those.Another idea might be to try and get a few bands together and split the cost of hiring a venue, then split door takings to cover outlay. Any other bands out there who might be up for that? I could definitely get us a night at The Half Moon, which has a nice set up. MrBen
The Hootenany has an amazing night on Fridays and Sat which is really Ska focussed but great atmosphere. I think they also won best live music pub award recently - they might be up for other bands outside of the Fri/Sat night thing.I also had a really good night at the Golden Lion in Sydenham a few months back at their blues club - but they put bands on. Jeremy
To be honest The Hootenany probably isn't right for the type of thing Otta has in mind.
