Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I can't recall a TV equivalent of the music room/cinema/book threads, so I thought I'd clear some bandwith for TV moments

2 to start

I know Gervais annoys people as much as he entertains others but for me, this was the TV highlight of the Christmas schedules - in fact, of the year

Celeb Culture

And, as I've relentlessly banged on about it, the first ever scene in The Wire

Snot Boogy

nothing comes of the scene but it sets the stall out for the show - the up and downside of the American Dream...good guys and bad guys not in diametrically opposed positions...

obviously people have to be careful with spoiler - I very nearly did the finale to LoM as soon as you mentioned it!

flawed tho it was (the reset button was hit every week on any lessons learned in the last episode for example) I really enjoyed watching the whole thing. But no, I wouldn't want the real world to regress back to the Gene Hunt's of the world - as an Irishman I'd be f***ed for a start

And the sequel - Ashes to Ashes - worries me. But I'll give it a go

And yes you are officially next up for Series 1 boxset of t'Wire

But no more posting without adding some TV gold - I miss this series very very much - this is the news!

Day Today

(why haven't news producers gleaned ANYTHING from this???)

    • I think part of the problem may be that if you are a cyclist and  can see cars and pedestrians after dark, e.g. lit by streetlights and headlights, you don't realise that they can't see you when your bike has no lights and you are dressed in dark non reflective clothing. The other part of the problem may be that you just don't care, of course. ETA: Do Lime bikes not have lights?
    • It was normal cyclists, in rush hour traffic, in the dark, in the rain. Just really want people to realise it’s that time of year even more careful and to get kitted out.
    • The other consideration is that users of Lime bikes and similar, plus younger pedal cyclists, probably don't view themselves as 'cyclists' as such and so don't get kitted out or even consider that they need to. I also agree that earlier nights are another factor for the casual or hire bike user more used to cycling in the summer. I don't think I have ever seen a hire bike or scooter user wearing a helmet or reflective gear- presumably that is because the bike is just viewed as a transport tool for short term use and users do not want to be encumbered by any of the safety gear? Before anyone jumps on me for anecdotal evidence and speculation, this is just what I have seen round here, there may be hordes of similar users elsewhere that are kitted out.
