New Thermostat Advice Needed

Hello

We have a traditional unwired thermostat for our central heating, but unfortunately the timer function on it is no longer working. We are planning to replace it with a digital programmable thermostat, but I really know very little about this. So questions I have are:

* Any recommendations on which brand (we don't need a "smart" one)

* Is this something I can (in theory) install myself?

* If not, who would I call to get one installed?

What is the existing model. I can then Google it to see how compatible a digital replacement may be. When you say thermostat are you talking about your central heating programmer? Thermostat simply turns things off when a temperature is reached.
