ang
Hi I'm finding it increasingly difficult to manage my kids and I was thinking about going to a parenting class. Any one got a recommendation to share?thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24255-parenting-classes-for-2-6-year-olds/ Share on other sites
kemurf
One of the teachers at my daughter's pre-school told me recently about a course she had been on for parents to help speak and communicate with children. Try; http://www.ican.org.uk/ andhttp://www.talkingpoint.org.uk/en/Parent.aspxHaven't looked at these yet. Also, maybe the pre-school learning alliance could help?Kate Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24255-parenting-classes-for-2-6-year-olds/#findComment-556807 Share on other sites
Belle
I tried to get on one but missed out on a place as was a bit late this term, have signed up for the autumn term - the one this term was being run at various places including the Albrighton Centre on a Friday morning, for 10 weeks. They do a creche too. I think there are details on the Southwark website - will see if i can find the link. To be honest I'm not sure how I'll manage the commitment of 10X fri mornings but want to do something! espelli
If you have boys this may be useful to you. A friend of mine has worked with this project and rates it very highly. http://www.boysdevelopmentproject.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Discipline-and-Boys-under-5-booklet-pdf.pdf Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24255-parenting-classes-for-2-6-year-olds/#findComment-673280 Share on other sites

scareyt
Thanks for that link espelli. I tried the " low and slow" tip today and it worked! Just the once but still nice. EmilyPie
And I tried the touching when talking thing and it definitely helped with the blatant ignoring, thank you. Saffron
Are there any 'attachment' or 'gentle' style parenting classes / peer support groups on a weekend? DH and I both work fulltime. xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24255-parenting-classes-for-2-6-year-olds/#findComment-706623 Share on other sites
Sol
What are the tips just for boys? Nunheadfamily
This lady Mary Corrigon is a brilliant teacher of loving and nuturing children sensitively Tought this course on managing difficult behaviour would be helpfulhttp://pac.org.uk/training/event-registration/?ee=17 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24255-parenting-classes-for-2-6-year-olds/#findComment-707308 Share on other sites
Bellenden Belle
Sol - the tips for boys that have previously been discussed here can be found in the resources section of this website -http://www.boysdevelopmentproject.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Discipline-and-Boys-under-5-booklet-pdf.pdfEven reading this several months on has been useful for me a a a gentle reminder. Saffron
Tbh, the tips in that link are interesting but personally I think they have more to do with parental perception of boys than the individual behaviour of any child. My child acts A LOT like the boys described in that link, and she's a girl. My friend's child is very much the opposite, and he's a boy. Saffron
The pac.org link looks good, but I couldn't find anything for parents on a weekend (link was for adoptive parents and carers?). Will look again when I have more time. Unfortunately due to our work schedules, DH and I can only do weekends for formal courses. Or does anyone know of informal peer support style gentle parenting groups that meet in the evening?
