One of the teachers at my daughter's pre-school told me recently about a course she had been on for parents to help speak and communicate with children. Try;

and

Haven't looked at these yet.

Also, maybe the pre-school learning alliance could help?

Kate

I tried to get on one but missed out on a place as was a bit late this term, have signed up for the autumn term - the one this term was being run at various places including the Albrighton Centre on a Friday morning, for 10 weeks. They do a creche too. I think there are details on the Southwark website - will see if i can find the link. To be honest I'm not sure how I'll manage the commitment of 10X fri mornings but want to do something!

Hi did you try these courses in the end? I am thinking the same thing - so fed up of bring ignored by 3 year old and hate shouting at him but sometimes I don't know what else to do to get him to get dressed / get in the bath / put down tos / leave the house / etc etc. Help!

Sol - the tips for boys that have previously been discussed here can be found in the resources section of this website -

http://www.boysdevelopmentproject.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Discipline-and-Boys-under-5-booklet-pdf.pdf

Even reading this several months on has been useful for me a a a gentle reminder.

Tbh, the tips in that link are interesting but personally I think they have more to do with parental perception of boys than the individual behaviour of any child. My child acts A LOT like the boys described in that link, and she's a girl. My friend's child is very much the opposite, and he's a boy.

The pac.org link looks good, but I couldn't find anything for parents on a weekend (link was for adoptive parents and carers?). Will look again when I have more time.

Unfortunately due to our work schedules, DH and I can only do weekends for formal courses.

Or does anyone know of informal peer support style gentle parenting groups that meet in the evening?

    • For the North Cross Rd one, other than this post on the day,  the only sign I saw was a few papers on lampposts saying no parking due to an event.  It didn't say what the event was. On the day at around 1.45pm all the parked cars were still there and there was just 1 unusual stall (an info stand about a children's activity group).
    • Hope all the ‘high streets for people’ events went well! Very short notice probably for people living in the area and on a very hot day!  James McAsh just doesn’t know what to do next with Southwark Council Tax payers money. He advocates the few streets in the area that has a bus service and then shuts the routes down! Very annoying for people who want to go about their daily business and have already had restrictions brought in by McAsh.
    • Thank goodness for Greg. I had an awful situation whereby I was notified that water was leaking from my flat into the flat below me. I was 150 miles away at the time and had a panicked journey home not knowing what I was going to face.   I called Greg (after seeing reviews on the forum) as soon as I arrived home in the evening and he arrived just after 10pm and was able to shut off the problem. He had to come back to finalise the job which turned out to be caused in a communal area whereby there was a blockage in the stack pipe.   Greg worked quickly, efficiently and informed me every step of the way as to what he was doing and why. He also cleaned up really well afterwards.  Greg's charges are very reasonable and he will definitely be my "go-to" if I have any other plumbing issues in the future.
