yeah but Steveo these things tend to get self corrected: ie

Plenty of defenders if they've had a good experience there

Hand held up by resturant/bars that engage if something not right and criticism taken on baord or at leats acknowledged

Plenty of opportunity to put case forward if they think they've been wronged

Pesrsitsent single critics and/or, ahem, rivals tend to get exposed by Admin or other posters

Please most people as much as possible, engage with your audience. But to try and close down any criticism in a stalinist fashion FFS

Anyway, one of these establishments I haven't been in for years becuase I think its attitude to customers stinks, another one I was thinking of trying but certainly won't bother now and tend not to use new places unless they get an airing on the forum anyway.

So, as *B put it..their loss. and stooopid in the digital age.

Point taken but assuming they are unfamiliar with social media because they're too busy running a restaurant, and if, as I suspect they are doing good business with or without the forum, then who needs the hassle of policing a thread and following up niggles from tossers?
Dunno which ones etc but I think Admin get's consistent crap and legal threats from a minority of retailers who presumably (and I've heard) hate the EDF as it gives their punters a collective voice. This is a great local resource that serves people well and if local businesses are too scared of that in this day and age then f**k them as far as I'm concerned.

Marketing is the key to the success of any business. In ED, this forum should be the major marketing strategy of any local business - after all, what else is there? As others have said, businesses that respond positively on here and you will look good. Responding to customers is generally a good idea.

And anyway, it looks like the 'ban' has been pretty much an epic fail, unsurprisingly. It's called the 'Streisand effect'.

Can I just say...arf to this.

As for the ETSNBN, speaking hypothetically you understand, for every negative comment which might come up on forums like this there were several corresponding positive reviews and reviewers. Which will all have been deleted. And won't ever be reposted. Hmmm...

Just read the sticky and I'm embarrassed for them. Childish silly people. So they think they've got a disgruntled ex-employee. So what? Grow up. It happens. Having a big girly sulk is not going to show them in a good light (see what I did there?).

Twitter / Facebook / Forum - they are all here, whether you like them or not. So all you businesses better learn to deal with them - BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO CHOICE.

And yes, I applaud Green & Blue and Jacks who both handled criticism in a positive way and they are both great places to go and I think more highly of them knowing that they can take some criticism and turn it round.

Cripes, I didn't realise that the proprietors of the Heavy Hellenic had also suffered a toys and pram related incident.

Maybe there should be a permanent sticky on the ED businesses thread entitled "businesses who are so confident that they are perfect that they have insisted that any criticism of them on this forum be ruthlessly purged". Or something.

It was actually more than one ex-employee.

Yes I'm sure they may have had unhappy customers who posted on here, but their press release mentions an ex-employee and that's why I mentioned it.

If someone criticises them on Twitter are they going to send a press release to Twitter? Because Twitter will fall about laughing.

OK thanks Admin.

Salsaboy - to be fair that's not true. Sometimes someone doesn't work out in a job (for loads of different reasons) and it all goes wrong. Difficult to place blame one way or the other, just like it's difficult to say who's to blame when any relationship goes bad.

    • Thanks very much, that's really interesting. I feel better about the shredded paper not being recycled now! And even better that I can get it out of the house and into the green bin! I will save a bit for future composting though  (and homemade seed paper, thanks Peckhamgatecrasher) x
    • Hello. I think we have found him! Sending you a DM with my phone number.
    • That's fantastic news. Good on him.
    • I pass here almost every day and have never seen the local business struggle to load. There's plenty of space as things are.    Seems to me this is just the meddling council being ****heads yet again. These are their reasons: "BAWDALE ROAD Goose Green add a total of 35m new 'DYLs' on both sides south-east of its junction with Lordship Lane (22m on the side of No. 157 Lordship Lane, 3m o/s No. 2 Bawdale Road, and 10m opposite No.2 Bawdale Road) to protect access for large vehicles coming to collect from and deliver goods to the nearby businesses"   Consultation here: https://consultation.appyway.com/southwark/order/1c3a8926-8f51-47e1-8460-2727fec6d895
