Please recommend some books for a 5 year old girl

I would like to buy my neice some books by Bristish authors for her birthday (she lives in the States), but I am a bit tuned out of what girls like as I have 3 boys.

Magic Faraway Tree and the other two Enchanted Wood titles by Enid Blyton are good

My 5 year old daughter also loves the Magic Faraway tree books, also the Worst Witch books by Jill Murphy are great.

My daughter loves Sara Ogilvie's Dogs Don't do Ballet and Rhinos Don't eat Pancakes.

Also Shirley Hughes Alfie stories and the Princess Poppy series.

She also likes the Rainbow Fairies stories.

Enid Blyton definitely a great read... Is Nancy Drew author British? Hmm... Secret Garden? Might be a bit old but can be read to her. Or just look generally on Amazon and book websites like Waterstones, they often have great recommendations and you can sift by age.

Great suggestions everybody, thanks so much! I loved Enid Blyton as a child and amazing to know that she's stood the test of time. I greatly enjoyed re-reading the Faraway Tree books with my older boys. Love the sound of Sara Ogilvie and Jill Murphy's books and will check out those links too.
