That's a Casement UPVC not a Sash.

You've got a few options.

1 paint them use the upvc primer .

2 Remove and see if the original sash boxes are still either side . if they are then you can get sliders made and go back to original timber sash windows for ?500 ish . you could also go with double glazed but that would mean replacing the weights with heavier ones .

If you find the boxes are gone

3 install new Timber at ?1000 to ?2000.

4 replace them with new upvc sash see my link to quickslide.co.uk. maybe ?300 if you diy.

Seems you were unlucky by getting competition from people with more money than sense. Doesn't happen all the time though!

This is why i always wonder why UK manufacturers are soo expensive...

We are really selling our windows like 30-40% cheaper with shipping than those in UK ...

Just made a quick look at the pricelist. As an autor asked 700x1000 costs 300 punds here against 2k in UK.

Michael

I have recently used WoodAndHome ? www.woodandhome.co.uk.

They came next day for a survey and within 4 weeks supplied very good quality timber sash windows to my new extension, my builders fit them,

They price was very competitive They provided all details in quotation and I knew what I was paying for.

At the end i also replaced all other widows, this time they gave me a very good price including installation.

I had a window replacement done by clera windows https://www.clerawindows.com/ a few months back. The box sash window was actually invented in England in the the late 17th century. I had it single glazed. Box sash windows require toughened glass and 6.4 laminated security glass is also required. I also had obscure glazing solutions done.

    • Hey fellow cat owners! Was hoping that you would consider putting collars with bells on your outside cats? I’ve wee fledglings in a nest and at the moment I’m defending them against an orange and white dude (I call him Trump) and his nemesis, a lovely Tuxedo cat (I call Elon)… they are quite the double act in my back garden!!!! It would give the wee ones a bit of a better chance if a bell could announce their approach. And as a feline owner myself, I know cats will be cats, but every little helps even the odds. many thanks.
