I brought an (under 500) exercise bike (was actually planning to do so already) and as I was looking prices were going up and delivery times were going up to april.

Panicked and just paid :)

Yeah, exercise equipment out of stock everywhere and prices going through the roof.

Generally Amazon's algorithms are designed to profiteer in a crisis I notice. Surprised they're not getting more heat over this. If a traditional store massively marked up the prices of certain items in this situation they would be heavily criticised I suppose this is an advantage of not having a human make your pricing policy in the moment.

Demand-led pricing..... It's the high prices at times of high demand that allows companies to sell things cheaper when demand is lower - Amazon, Uber, airlines - all the same. It may not seem fair at times like this but we benefit from it at other times.
Agreed. But there are some online suppliers that are not raising prices to be fair. Because of demand, it means the cheaper versions of things are selling out fast. But you don't need expensive equipment to work out and youtube is full of great routines you can follow to keep up any previous gym or exercise routine. I just wanted a cross trainer because that was my most effective piece of gym equipment for High Impact Training. I already have bar and dumbells and a weights bench, and a cycling machine. For most people, they can find whole classes online, they can do in their own home, with very little equipment needed. Maybe we should start a new thread to share links for useful at home exercise? Exercise is a great thing for combating depression too.

It came directly from the mobile networks on behalf of the Gov, so we can all sleep easy knowing that Michael Gove doesn't have our numbers...

LOL - I wouldn't be surprised

Lucky this country doesn't sell weapons like the good old US or they'd be a run on them too.

Hurray (and I know some won't approve) but a few beers or a glass of wine just helps especially on a friday when you would have a drink with friends (lots still having a drink via skype/facetime)

    • I was lucky enough to go to Japan earlier in the year and late one night ended up having to drunkenly navigate my way back to the hotel using my phone. I was briefly nervous, then realised I was in Japan and they don't really do street crime/phone snatching and all was fine. My point being, I don't spend a lot of time worrying about safety in London, but I wonder if I/we have got so used to being on edge (holding bags/phones close) we don't give it much conscious thought. And yes, as mostly a pedestrian if there was less traffic crime my life would be a lot calmer!
    • There’s an interesting discussion to be had on the need for infrastructure generally and on bottlenecks in specific areas, as noted above. However on new houses specifically, I’ve never understood the infrastructure argument. The people to go in the new houses already exist and are already using infrastructure. Thanks to twenty years of under-building we’ve got millions of adults stuck living with parents, living in house shares, paying a fortune to rent cramped flats etc - that’s what a housing crisis is. They’re presumably all using road/trains, showering and weeing whilst doing so. Building them houses doesn’t necessarily increase the need for infrastructure much, if at all. The Abundance Agenda podcast is a great listen if you’re interested in this stuff.
