Can anyone help! I want to change my doctors, as the one I'm at present is too far. The best choices for me would be the one on Crystal Palace ROad or the one on Forest hill Road. I have a 4 month old baby so I'm particulary interested in what the health visitors are like but also the doctors. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with either of these? Thanks x

I am with the dulwich medical centre on crystal palace road. It used to be a good practice but it is now next to impossible to make an appointment. It's becoming a real problem. See the thread in the general section of the forum. Apart from that, The midwives are fab and I liked my health visitors on townley road very much.
I'm with Forest Hill Road and mostly happy. There are a few nice HVs although the baby clinic gets busy- arrive early! Most of the GPs I've seen have been helpful. It can take a while to get an appointment but I have always managed to either see or speak to a GP on the same day when one of my children has been ill.
Also with DMC, Crystal Palace Rd and always managed to get an appointment for my daughter on the same day if I called that morning. Obviously, if it wasn't urgent then the wait was longer but that's reasonable. I think they prioritise babies/children esp in the context of fever, rashes etc. I can't comment about the wait for appt for adults, as have no personal experience. Also, The Lanes Midwifery Team are affiliated to the DMC but they have a long waiting list so being registered with the DMC doesn't guarantee a place on their books.
I don't have children but I recently changed to The Gardens Surgery and its been really great so far-no problem getting appointments. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. They also run a seperate baby clinic (not for ill children, I think its more for vaccinations etc) which might be good for you?

The Gardens surgery is brilliant. Have had two children and been under their care for both. A great baby clinic, Penny, the lady who runs that is fantastic!

The catchment for the Gardens is VERY strict (which is probably why they have less problems with appointments etc, I think they keep their patient list more manageable) so you will need to call them, tell them the road you live in and they will let you know if you're in their area.

Good luck!

Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
