PatG
Until it closed, the Blue Brick Cafe in East Dulwich offered the most wonderful home-cooked chips to accompany a spot of the old egg & b. But now, sadly, it has gone.I have searched far and wide - at enormous physical expense - for a cafe that offers non-frozen, hand-cut chips in the area but have sadly drawn a blank.Does anyone know of anywhere that offers this simple delight? Alan Medic
Well I do sometimes but I haven't opened as a business. I have a kitchen though. If you will travel and are happy to collect from my front door, how much are we talking about? KidKruger
Maybe you can try one of the chippies which have seating - ie. the one on Northcross Rd ? PatG
Hi all, Yes, the chippy-with-seating is often the last refuge for the chip-lover searching for a breakfast.I have tried the Sea Cow and agree the chips are not up to scratch - very disappointing for an otherwise fine establishment.I have not tried the one on Northcross Rd and will try it out.The problem I find though is that while chippy chips are often good, the kitchen does not offer egg and bacon to accompany them. I'd be interested in hearing of any cafe in London that offers this simple delight!Pat Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25031-fresh-hand-cut-chips-too-much-to-ask/#findComment-567845 Share on other sites
PSJ
The chips from Fish, Chips and More are best in East Dulwich, IMHO. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25031-fresh-hand-cut-chips-too-much-to-ask/#findComment-567883 Share on other sites
Jeremy
That does indeed sound like a specialist requirement. Good luck in your search! Otta
Why don't you just buy a proper chip fryer and have your greatest pleasure in your own home? bluecanary
You could always hot foot it to the chippy of your choice, then carefully protecting your cherished portion of chips run as fast as you can back to yours, put the chips in a pre-heated oven to keep warm, sling some bacon under the grill, fry an egg or two, serve it all on a warm plate and tuck in! LondonLogCo
I went out with a girl who gutted chickens in a Littlehampton factoryShe worked in a freezer room essentiallyOoooooh her hands were always cold & she had that fleshy meaty smell about herNeedless to say it didn't last & I moved on to the girl from the crispa-cress packers. Her odour was just fine btw(they were lean days down there) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25031-fresh-hand-cut-chips-too-much-to-ask/#findComment-568191 Share on other sites

KidKruger
The Chinese did not move away, still there. The guy I think suffers a degenerative ailment and walks now with a stick, I see him regularly getting the bus. I think he does some kind of teaching/support for kids in Chinatown which, considering his condition, is quite a feat.Nice guy. I generally found his chips to be soggy, but I was always a 10.30pm customer. Jeremy
Dulwich Frier, between the station and Sainsburys, is a very decent old-school chippy. dbboy
The chips from Sea Master on Forest Hill Road are excellent, always have been good and the fish isn't bad either. Even better eaten straight out of paper. PatG
Some replies... Yes! The Regency, off Horseferry Road, is exactly the type of establishment I mean. A classic British cafe that offers fresh, chip-shop chips. It's exactly one hour's walk from where I live, enough time to build up a hunger.I would, as some have suggested, do my own home-chip-frying, but sometimes you just want someone to do it for you, while you have a good sit down and check the weather on your phone.I have also, as suggested, dashed back from the chippy and hastily prepared the egg and b. at home. Can certainly do the trick, but you still have to do the washing up. My favourite chippy, FWIW, is the Herne Hill Fish Bar - http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/52/1588610/restaurant/Dulwich/Herne-Hill-Fish-Bar-London Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25031-fresh-hand-cut-chips-too-much-to-ask/#findComment-568913 Share on other sites
