Hi there. I know a lot of people have started baking sourdough bread recently and I was wondering if anyone has any sourdough starter they would let me have.

I know I could make my own starter from scratch, but unfortunatly that requires a lot of flour (and wastage, as you must disgard some everyday). I know from my previous stint into sourdough that you often have alot of starter left over so if someone has some spare it would be better for both of us to prevent food waste!

To maintain social distancing the starter could be left on a doorstep or something similar. I am also happy to provide fresh pasta made by myself in exchange :)

I've also tried asking at a local bakery -who said they had none spare, but if anyone knows any bakeries that might be kind enough to give me some I would of course provide a donation to support a local business in these times!

Thanks

Kate

Don't necessarily need to waste the discarded sourdough starter when you feed! I add salt and herbs and bake it just as it is as a flatbread, maybe with a bit of olive oil - good with dips! It's sticky though, so best to bake on a silicon sheet if you have one. If I still have too much after my next feed in a week or so I'll let you know.
I have a sourdough starter which I am happy to share, KateKing. I keep it in the fridge and feed it about once a week. This is about as often as I use it, so I do not get "waste" but I am happy to produce some deliberately by feeding it and leaving it out for a day. PM me if you would like some.

    • Our refuse collectors leave rubbish all the way down the hill after they have emptied the bins. Everywhere you go you see rubbish everywhere. On some days walking through the high street in Peckham can be truly depressing with plastic bags and paper blowing around everywhere, Peckham and other streets deserve better than this Council complacency. I'm sure it wasn't so bad back in the day. Councils everywhere, faced with cuts in revenue, must have decided a long time ago  that litter picking  and rubbish collection were not so important. I think a clean, tidy environment makes everyone feel better about their home environment. Btw, I'm ok with a few weeds. They are just wild flowers in an inconvenient place.
