I just watch to the daily Downing Street briefing where they report the numbers and show the graphs of the situation up to yesterday. 5pm weekdays + 4pm weekends.

It's quite entertaining to hear the media spin as most of them have obviously not listened to what the government advisers have said over the weeks and they all keep trying to get the minister to speculate on the end of the lockdown, or the nature of the easing of the lockdown. And it is also obvious that they are not looking into the situation themselves but instead pick out stuff to score political points.

They all go on and on about us not doing loads of testing at the beginning when it was clearly stated that the tests we had early on were analyzed and found to be not accurate enough to use and therefore useless.

And https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/31/testing-kits-heading-uk-contaminated-coronavirus-12481933/

Also they seem to have lost sight of the fact that the problems the UK has are the same problems the rest of the world has.

An interesting piece of information I saw concerning PPE - it is early April but

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/04/02/french-officials-describe-assault-course-nations-obtain-protective/

Makes you wonder what happened to our assignment due from Turkey some weeks ago.

Investigative reporting is dead

I believe we are similiarly connected with plants and animals, plants can have viruses which have a similiar behaviour, my plum tree has been infected with a fungus. I am still not clear around the tests being used or the accuracy. has there been a definite identification of the virus. Ive looked a little at RT-pcr test, which i believe looked at genetic material similiar to SARS 1. I don*t know which tests are being used now and I have been surprised with a couple of friends of mine who are working on front line, who do not know either what tests are being used. It would be a step towards understanding if the scientist, government could explain as much as possible in laymans term and keep us up to date with tests being used and how they work. one person can do this. I would find this information helpful instead of this constant delivery of fear and contradictions.

an end to some parts of the lockdown is now happening on Monday allegedly. That's without much discussion at all

Is that media pressure or other pressure or are they scared about the economy ?

I believe the official figures are from Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

The Office of National Statistics has some insightful data:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19roundup/2020-03-26

90% of Covid-19 deaths are aged over 65, and 9 out of 10 deaths had underlying health issues. This naturally raises the question as to why the whole country and economy is on lockdown, rather than just the over 65's and those with health issues.

Do you have a source at all for that 80%? The provisional testing analysis shows that approx. 10% of those tested either currently have or have had it previously so that seems pretty high.

The situation in Northern Italy was very much exacerbated by the lack of medical professionals and equipment. Doctors were placed into a position where they pretty much had to choose who survived. This is according to my Italian housemate who is a Neurologist at Kings, and has gone back home to help out over there.

I think we all need to be extremely cautious of a man that once infamously stated vaccines will help reduce population growth during his TED Talk, considering how vocal he has been recently in pushing for a vaccine to cure this virus.

You can't say reducing the world population growth is killing children that don't exist.

80% was the figure put around a few weeks ago by politicians a few weeks ago, 4% hospitalization and 1% mortality. Times this by 60 million and you get some very high numbers.

Even 10% of this as a result of no lockdown and other measures would be pretty frightening.

There is lots of other links with the same numbers but not sure where the original data came from

Thanks Robbie

Unfortunately I cannot reconcile yesterday's announced 649 daily deaths (or any day's death toll) with the figures in those charts, which seem to show current daily death tolls below 200 !

I'm sure I'm mis-reading something because it's like data for a different event !

It is a reality for some older and most physically vulnerable people that they are at risk of becoming ill especially around winter time, this is not a new thing, in fact I can't remember a time when pnuemonia and flu were not a risk. I myself fall into this category. Looking at what we are being told makes no sense. Should everyone be in lock down every year to protect the vulnerable. Shoul the vulnerable be told how they must protect themselves and others when the likelyhood of spreading a virus that mostly effects vulnerable. This is a chance people take anyway. Do we want to protecting people from allowing our immune systems to work. I find it makes no sense.

I agreed - Reducing population growth for me would be via negatively affecting either fertility and/or life expectancy

Hope this makes sense TE44. Seasonal flu puts a lot of pressure on the NHS every winter, despite the flu jab reducing the spread and number of people being infected. C19 is far more contagious than seasonal flu and we have no jab for it. The whole point of the lockdown is to prevent the spread and thus avoid overwhelming the NHS and social care services...

Robbie, Its becoming the norm to not allow people with different points of views around this given reality,to speak out, this is including people working within NHS, when they do it is removed. People who have knowledge within science. It is not about differences of opinions anymore its about

Only allowing the given reality.

Sorry DR, You must have posted when I was typing, (I'm slow).flu is pretty contagious as well, I just can't believe if it was contagious as is said, catching it from cash, paper metal, it would have been impossible to stop it spreading. Especially if it was here 3months before lockdown. It is a reality for older vulnerable people the flu jab does not have a good efficiency rate on the whole it doesnt either. We are yet to see the effect the lockdowm has had on velnerable people.

I agree and it restricts one of the biggest requirements in science - questioning. From what I understand, FB and YouTube are removing any content that contradicts the WHO narrative, which has changed from when this all broke out. This is very dangerous censorship and there have been many stories of doctors and others having their content removed. From their perspective of how serious or not this is, to stories of pressure to falsifying reasons of death due to the extra funding that hospitals receive per Covid death

robbie, I put up a very interesting video, not sure if it was this thread or one of the others, you may have seen it although not available now. It was an interview with a scientist DrJudy Mikovits. She is being interviewed tommorrow, i think at night, by Brian Rose ofLondon Real, hopefully I8ll be able to link as they are now using ther own platform after being removed from youtube last week. I saw the 30min video and this woman has experience working closely with these organisations, She was arrested and vever charged but had a5yr gagging order put on her.when I went back to check some things she had said it was gone. this is a story I would like to hear again in more detail. DR. I think by Stories Robbie means stories coming from people involved on the front line who have a different perspective.

This is the Plandemic ?If a conclusion supports your existing beliefs, you'll rationalize anything that supports it.?

    • The current wave of xenophobia is due to powerful/influential people stirring up hatred.  It;'s what happened in the past, think 1930s Germany.  It seems to be even easier now as so many get their information from social media, whether it is right or wrong.  The media seeking so called balance will bring some nutter on, they don't then bring a nutter on to counteract that. They now seem to turn to Reform at the first opportunity. So your life is 'shite', let;s blame someone else.  Whilst sounding a bit like a Tory, taking some ownership/personal responsibility would be a start.  There are some situations where that may be more challenging, in deindustrialised 'left behind' wasteland we can't all get on our bikes and find work.  But I loathe how it is now popular to blame those of us from relatively modest backgrounds, like me, who did see education and knowledge as a way to self improve. Now we are seen by some as smug liberals......
    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
