I watched a programme yesterday evening called the lockup on BBC 3, its about a Humberside Police custody suite for those that haven't seen or are not aware of it.

One the cases highlighted the situation of a self employed guy who caught a man trying to break into his van with a crowbar to steal his work tools. The van owner took the thief on and in doing so managed to take the crowbar from the thief and in fight that ensued the van owner walloped the thief with his own crowbar, in what he said was self defence. When the case went to court, the would be thief, who it turned out had a string of convictions for burglary and violent disorder, chose not to give evidence. Case was then dismissed againt the van owner. I couldn't help but feel huge delight for the man who did what he thought was right by protecting what he had worked so hard for. In his shoes I would have done exactly the same. And I know some posters will be thinking that the van owner should have called the police WITHOUT approaching the would be thief, but he probably thought it was worth making a stand, as I do.

I'm not sure we were told it actually reached court.

We don't know exactly how he acted. We were given some partial indication of the injuries, which received hospital treatment, and told of the GBH charge.

Yes, but I don't really mind.

    • No, you didn’t write the article. But unless you’re a Telegraph subscriber, you haven’t read the article either. Have you read it? The psychopath Telegraph lives behind a (rubber) paywall but using this kind of sensationalist, accusatory headline gets it traction on social media. The headline becomes more important than the article; many will see it and some will take it as a statement of fact. And it will be shown on endless “let’s take a look at the papers” segments on TV and radio for 12 hours or more in every news day. And so, a tiny number of reactionary, right wing hacks has a vastly disproportionate influence on the popular conversation despite the papers they work for being bought by almost nobody these days.
    • Trelco are wonderful. James has been super reliable and they are a gem to have around us locally. Trust them completely, will give honest advice and have very fair pricing for all small work around the house or bigger plumbing projects. I've used them multiple times and they will always find the time to help, even when they are busy they will pop round to make sure we aren't stranded which is a nice touch.
    • "attack on the tax", I posted a link, how was that an attack? I didn't write the article, so how was that an attack on the proposed tax?  Are you now saying what can and cannot be posted, when did you become Admin(NOT).
