Can anyone help me to identify what type of fly has been invading me this afternoon/evening. They aren't houseflies, nor bluebottles. Definitely not flying ants. I have no idea how they're getting in either. As soon as I swat 5 of them another 10 appear from nowhere!

They don't fly around the room they just stay on the windows. My house is always clean and tidy, even more so since the pandemic, so I know they haven't been encouraged in. I just can't fathom them out.

Also, even though I've closed all the windows they are still appearing. Help!

No, downstairs I don't have floorboards, it's concrete. The weird thing is, I decided to stop swatting them to see how many appeared. Although the flies are freaking me out, they seem to die off quickly of their own accord. How weird. Never known anything like it. Guess who won't sleep tonight!!

I think we had these last year. Very annoying, clustered round the lights when they were on. They were around for about a week and then mysteriously disappeared. We also looked them up and thought they must be cluster flies. Definitely not fruit flies (which we also occasionally get if an apple is left out too long) -these were bigger and flew faster than fruit flies. Good luck!

Thank you. They're back again. Grrr

I'd never heard of them before Sue. Not very nice as there are so many of them. Hoping the cluster fly spray that I've ordered from Amazon will sort them out.

    • Hope all the ‘high streets for people’ events went well! Very short notice probably for people living in the area and on a very hot day!  James McAsh just doesn’t know what to do next with Southwark Council Tax payers money. He advocates the few streets in the area that has a bus service and then shuts the routes down! Very annoying for people who want to go about their daily business and have already had restrictions brought in by McAsh.
    • Thank goodness for Greg. I had an awful situation whereby I was notified that water was leaking from my flat into the flat below me. I was 150 miles away at the time and had a panicked journey home not knowing what I was going to face.   I called Greg (after seeing reviews on the forum) as soon as I arrived home in the evening and he arrived just after 10pm and was able to shut off the problem. He had to come back to finalise the job which turned out to be caused in a communal area whereby there was a blockage in the stack pipe.   Greg worked quickly, efficiently and informed me every step of the way as to what he was doing and why. He also cleaned up really well afterwards.  Greg's charges are very reasonable and he will definitely be my "go-to" if I have any other plumbing issues in the future.
