angelfish
Hi, has anyone spent Christmas in Tenerife? Or would recommend a particular hotel/villa there? My elderly mother-in-law can't fly far but wants to spend Christmas somewhere warmer. My husband, me and our 2 kids (aged 2 and 5) will be joining her. The problem us we have never been there and have no idea where to stay etc etc. Any advice would be welcome!!!Thanks!Michelle Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25588-advice-on-christmas-in-tenerife/ Share on other sites
Michael Palaeologus
Why Tenerife? If you are looking for warm you could try Lanzarote (less spoiled by tourism) or Turkey - some nice villas in Turkey. Townleygreen
Turkey will be much cooler than the Canaries Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25588-advice-on-christmas-in-tenerife/#findComment-576467 Share on other sites
dulwichgirl2
Well I can tell you that Golf del Sur can be v nice and is v handy for airport. However you need to check exactly where within the complex you are. It is really big and some areas are badly affected by the flight path, although we were lucky. I will look for details of our agent and our bungalow number if you are interested as it was lovely, accidentally! Townleygreen
Los Gigantes is a pretty little place in Tenerife, halfway up the east coast. It has huge cliffs to one side (hence the name). Aladam888
South Tenerife is quite cold in the winters, so i guess thats out of question. It is cooler in the North of the island compared to the south. Tenerife is like two countries. For sun, sea, pub and club, go to the south; for green, scene, Spain and rain, go to the north. Also, for the christmas part, Tenerife is quite a festive places, they have different activities for every day till new year Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25588-advice-on-christmas-in-tenerife/#findComment-576553 Share on other sites
Jessie
Me, my son, my mum, dad and big bro are off to Los Gigantes for Christmas. The festive period in Tenerife is really good fun, and it's v easy to get away from the Brits. Annie N
Try Gran Canaria - but go south - Arguinegen, Patalavaca. I think its the warmest of the canary islands Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25588-advice-on-christmas-in-tenerife/#findComment-576780 Share on other sites
Gerryw80
You specifically want to go to Tenerife only? Because there is no way you can avoid the chill during Christmas time in Tenerife. Consider some other destination altogeteher. What sort of places and activities you prefer on Christmas? That would help suggest more appropriate choices for you to visit:) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25588-advice-on-christmas-in-tenerife/#findComment-577217 Share on other sites
RosieH
It may be chilly up Mt Teide, but I luxuriated in 30 degrees of sunshine and a fug of honey rum when I spent a new year there a few years ago.Unusually high temperature perhaps, but chilly it is not, unless you're 3000 feet above sea level.Playa de las Americas is hell on earth, but only 15 minutes along the coast are lovely fishing villages, the people are lovely, Teide is awesome. It's a fabulous place. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25588-advice-on-christmas-in-tenerife/#findComment-577238 Share on other sites
Jessie
Yes, every time we've been in the winter it's been warm. Not mega hot, but I don't like mega hot. So warm sunshine for Christmas will do me fine. Besides, we're flying from Newcastle so it's bound to be an improvement on temperatures there. Michael Palaeologus
I went to Lanzarote in early January. Quite odd sun bathing by a pool at that time of year. Got chilly in the evenings, but thats what bars and restaurants are for.
