Hi, Yes I am going to pop along to the next meeting, my work colleague has also advised I join NCT.. I can see on line they do have NCT twin groups but I was wondering if anyone knows who I should contact? Any advice would be great, they are my first babies very excited & nervous ..

HI Molly, there are no specialised NCT twin classes in ED at the moment. I think you'd need to look further afield for those - I seem to recall that the NCT were running some at The Barkantine Centre in the docklands?

The best thing to do is call the branch booking secretary, Alison Johnson. She keeps a database with all the courses running in Southwark, Lewisham and some of the Lambeth ones too. She'll be able to advise you what your options are. She's contactable on 0844 243 6921 or [email protected]

Kings run a twin antenatal session

If you want to make friends with other mums having babies at the same time, singleton nct mums (or mums from edf) aren't a bad place to start

Sadly, mothers of twin newborns can't easily meet up in the nct fashion for coffee etc

Can't fit one double buggy in many cafes, let alone several, and if you're juggling two babies it can be handy if done if your friends have just one

The dish and spoon looks like a good place to meet, or the plough b

Btw

Enough space for double buggies

The twins club meetings on Tuesdays and Fridays will be good of course

Hi Molly,

Congratulations! I have 18 month old twin boys and I am a twins club member. I help run the Kings College Hospital midwives workshops for people expecting twins so we'll hopefully see you down there in October. I seem to remember that there were twins NCT workshops running in Canada Water but I felt the same as you - it's just not worth it once you get past a certain size! I did the NCT workshops in Nunhead and have made some good friends through this who all have singleton babies. But I have found it invaluable to be a twins club member. They run expectant parents evenings where you can meet other people expecting twins and get to hear all about birthing experiences and practical advice. The club can also 'buddy' you up with people expecting at a similar time to you. You would also be more than welcome to come along to our park meet ups on Friday mornings in Peckham Rye Park - more details on the website. You may still be working but when you are on maternity leave, do come down and meet people. It's great to be able to ask all those questions about buggies, breastfeeding etc.

Good luck! And hopefully see you some time at the twins club meet ups. Feel free to PM me with any twins questions!

Hi Molly, I did NCT classes just over 15 years ago in Nunhead lead by one of the Albany midwives practice, (now based at Peckham Pulse.) They deliberately put me and another woman expecting twins in the same group, so that we had each other to meet up with in our post baby sessions afterwards. We also joined the Twins club together and found that a great support for several years. In fact I was treasurer for a while and only stopped going when my girls started school. I'd certainly recommend going to a Twins club session before yours are born.I'd also recommend visiting the Albany midwives, if they're still at Peckham Pulse. They will probably know where to find an NCT group with ast least some twin pregnancies and they also used to run a baby group there once a week.Twins club sales of euipment, clothes and toys were brilliant places to get 2 of everything, (matching high chairs, car seats, etc.)

Good luck. Remember, however hard it is having to split your attention between 2 all the time, at least they always have a companion. I never had to arrange 'play dates' to entertain them, just mum dates to keep me sane! If any one offers to help, say yes. You will need other pairs of hands.
