This is the first Dulwich Net Zero Meeting.

Please PM for a free invite to the Zoom meeting. Hopefully soon we can meet in real life.

All welcome.

Supporting, informing, encouraging Dulwich to go Net Zero

A group that supports each other in dealing with the challenges of reducing

fossil fuel dependence.

Sharing ideas and information about reducing our carbon footprint.

If you really want to go net zero

Get rid off all your electronic technologies including smart phones, games consoles, televisions that need to be left on standby rather than switching off at the wall, Alexia and other listening devices, and anything that needs to be left plugged in and on standby waiting for updates.

All of these consume power

Shop local rather than at supermarkets, shopping centres and on the internet as local shops tend to source locally plus if you do shop locally you will be less inclined to drive and get less packaging from online retailers

Eat what's in season

Send your kids to a local school rather than choosing a better school miles away (as a lot of patents do) and encourage them to walk / cycle to school

Don't take foreign holidays

Switch lights off when out of the room

Use a milk delivery service that delivers in glass bottles (less plastic waste)

Use washable nappies not pull ons (sensible really)

All these things and more are needed to truly reduce our carbon footprint, it's not just attacking drivers for necessary journeys as that alienates them.

Make small changes to your life which have big impacts on the planet

I'm looking forward to being on the start-up call on 22nd. There are a lot of simple and practical steps I know we can action. Now is the time to "build back greener"! The new gov Green Home Grant seems a good support for future energy saving/carbon emission reductions too.
  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you to Andrew for hosting the first meeting last night. A dozen people logged in to to find out about reducing one's carbon footprint from home, in simple and practical ways. It's hoped a website and social media will follow soon.

There's a second meeting in a month's time, at a local venue (possibly in person). You can calculate your own carbon emissions using a online calculator such as carbonfootprinnt.com. You can read up more on Net Zero, and the changes we need to make, on the Committee for Climate Change website.

As a quick update, we are in the process of putting a Facebook group together. A website and social media should be up before the next monthly meeting in August. Please do get in touch if you are interested/able to contribute with any of this. PP

    • It's a Microsoft . pub file, and it does open OK, but that's a discontinued program which used to be part of the full Office suite. I've got an old machine with old software and it's still on that.  This is a .pdf version (I hope)April 2025 Dulwich Hill Newsletter.pdf
    • Even with Acrobat pro - it does not open even though it is an acrobat doc.   Error: "Adobe Acrobat could not open 'April 2025 Dulwich Hill Newsletter.pub' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then choose Save as Adobe PDF from the PDF dropdown in the Print dialog."
    • I got my hair cut there and was very happy with it. I thought the pricing was fair - less than Blue Tit which is where I used to go. Jonny used to cut my hair years ago. I went to book him but ended up with Gabriele who did a great job. Will use them again. Also their junior price goes up to 17.
