Yes it does seem a bit OTT that Dulwich Library is STILL running such a limited service, given you can walk into any shop and pick things up and put them back on the shelves without the world ending. I don't know why they think books are higher risk than, say, a tin of beans?

That said, I've found the online ordering system has worked fine - the trick is to order several books at once as some of them take ages to come in, so that way you get a steady trickle of new titles. Though when I went in to drop off a returned book the other day, I did think it was a bit nuts that I had to sign in for Track & Trace - I had to spend longer filling in the form (using a shared pen, hmmm) than I did just returning the book itself, which took all of ten seconds. There were heaps of staff; God knows what they were all doing given there were no customers.

    • Had a meal at Chern Thai  in Grove Vale today - a belated birthday meal for me. We have the lunch time specials as they are good value. Hubby used to go there every week but had not been for several months due to illness.  Pao was happy to see us again and as usual the food was excellent .   0208 693 9749
    • We now go to the Forest Hill pool - more expensive (we are silver swimmers at ED)  but much easier to book in person. Can book and pay for several swims in advance. Better and cleaner facilities.
    • So are you saying that smoking these awful vape things are not harmful to someone’s health Alan? I think Sue’s reply to my question explains about how vapes are addictive and also contain very high amounts of nicotine which is the main culprit for smoking related deaths?   Can someone tell me how much a vape thing  costs?
    • I'm down about 50% in numbers and more in species since three years ago.  Not sure if it is the weather, continual building works, the quality of my feed or the pigeons and parakeets putting off others.  Good conversation on Winterwatch on feeding tonight, including issues with spreading disease. Three years ago, likely to see long tailed tits, dunnocks, song thrushes, corvids, wood pigeons. black birds, black caps. Possibles - redwings. Unlikely to see any this weekend, only blue and great tits, robin, goldfinches, bloody feral pigeons.
