I'm asking for a friend who's still too scared to go to the supermarket to get chicken.

Are you allowed to kill and eat our non native greys ? I know St Johns had them on the menu once but the annoying ones in my garden don't look like they will have much meat on them !

Is it legal ?

Any sauce or cooking techniques you can recommend ?

Can you make a coat out of their pelts after ?

Can you make a coat out of their pelts after ? Yes, but unless you are squirrel-size you will need a lot of squirrels. As individuals they do make good Covid-masks.

Yes to both questions however be aware that many of them have worms - one of the reason that cats & dogs get worms after eating them.

If you watch that american series where they live for 100 days in the Arctic - some of them live on squirrels and one licked the raw blood from one he killed whilst a little sign popped up on screen "drinking animal blood could infect you with bacteria that may cause infection"

In hard times I think any squirrel population eventually become the focus of predation. I certainly know people in the SE USA who back in the day living in the woods would eat squirrel as their main meat.

I think that the red necks in the USA would eat their own relatives if they were hungry.

After all being kin doesn't stop them a marrying (just had a weird image of cousins marrying and grandpa being the wedding breakfast )

Rats are eaten in many Asian countries including China

Not a lot different from Squirrels after being cooked.
