Last week I was expecting a parcel of books to be delivered. On Thursday evening I discovered further down the road a large empty box addressed to me which had obviously been left on our doorstep by the carrier while we were out and then stolen, torn open and the contents removed and taken. Earlier in the week another expected parcel had supposedly been delivered but was nowhere to be found - I now assume that must have also been stolen from the doorstep. Yesterday I also noticed a couple of piles of clothes in the next road to ours and torn open charity bags which had obviously been taken from people's doorsteps. So please be careful, there are thieves about, sadly, who would even steal from charities.

I had a parcel stolen from the front garden last Friday. The carriers put a note through the door saying it had been left behind the dustbins, but it was taken before I got home. Might have been opportunistic on the part of somebody who saw it being left, but maybe something a bit more systematic is going on. All they got was 50 seed potatoes - useless to them but annoying for me.

:))Well I once had a parcel delivered when I was out, and a notice put through my door "parcel in dustbin"

And it was !!!!

Luckily tbe dustbin people hadn't been ........

I also once had a parcel left on my wall which was nicked - it was a book from (sorry) Reader's Digest, and the title was something along the lines of "How to Get Things for Free" :))

Does that make it OK then? Theft is theft. Shame that we should feel that illegal behaviour should be acceptable just because of our postcode!

You could have your organic box delivered to any old doorstep in Chiswick (which is crime-free) and collect it from there at your leisure.

Though I'm not sure why anyone who lives within reach of SE22's fruit and vegeries would want to order from the massively overpriced Abel & Cole?!

It's not all that bad. You may remember I posted a while ago that I dropped my wallet around the notorious Northcross Rd frontline and was truly grateful when some kindred spirit posted it through my letter box later that day. Must have been a day tripper from Chiswick.

Isn't Neighbourhood Watch replaced by Safer Neighbourhoods? Less chance of being mugged but more likely to have your Littlewoods Direct delivery pinched? We need armed posties.

My sister-in-law was visiting Chiswick, loaded her kids in the car and drove off leaving her buggy on the footpath. Realised minutes later, retraced her steps, and it was gone. Dangerous place!

If she'd done the same in ED it would have still been there, it wasn't a Bugaboo or Phil 'n' Teds, so no re-sale value on the buggy black market...

No I haven't reported this to the police (either East Dulwich or even Chiswick) though I phoned and asked the companies who sent the goods to take the matter up with their carriers, given that I had asked for the parcels not to be left on the doorstep but given to a neighbour or taken to the sorting office or depot if we were not in.

You should have a case with the carriers then. It does seem that a lot of them can't be bothered to go to a neighbour, fill in a form and put that through the door - far easier to just dump the stuff on the doorstep. Some carriers seem worse than others although I am not sure if I can say on public forum which ones have done this sort of thing to me.

Stop moaning and use the local police....They have the resources to deal with this sort of crime. If you phone or email them they will contact you when they are on duty.

    • Just shows, to me, once proud to be a citizen of UK.. now.. well if we pay/contribute to services - nhs, police, fire etc and folk who have made this there home - no matter what creed or culture.. for the love c of God, can someone  please explain to me.. how we have working royals who like them or not, have tried and continue to actually support and make a change and then we have Andrew.. who just destroys everything.. not just him, or royalty but his own children..  I had great admiration for The Queen - and respect.. as have a huge number of people.. but.. these old traditions where gosh.. live rent free and can’t get chucked out until I believe 2070? From what I scanned..well he has and continues to have it all.. has to go thru what old rules? Etc.  doubt very much he has even kept the upkeep maintenance up on his abode.. and do the shite keeps on pulling up.. What has Andrew done for UK or for that matter since he was 20?? Do please tell me       Totally off topic, before anyone jumps down my throat.. I just do not get how anyone is proud to be British at this point in time. Whoever is in power, seems to be able to help themselves to the public purse with no redress at all - Covid is a great example of lining of pockets.. Millions  given to Rowanda, so one is led to believe, to help with refugee problem and one can’t get a plane load off!  I simply do not get it at all. Use of food banks in UK growing yearly, homeless as well, nhs, police, fire service etc all on their knees..
    • Have applied the green roof at a number of properties and no issues you are concerned about detected. Have issues with cats defecating in the vicinity, however, they are not selecting the green roof specifically. Use decent compost, slow release fertiliser specific for green roofs, and lay it methodically not leaving blank patches. It looks amazing when cared for and adds value.
    • Some suggestions for mandatory action might include:- 1. Permit retailers to display facial images on the premises  of previous offenders at their local store. 2. Sound an alert and display images on screens inside the store when the FR flags up a person entering who is on the national database of shoplifters. 3. Physically bar recognised shoplifters from the premises. Should they attempt to force entry then charges should be pressed under aggravated trespass, which  a criminal offence under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. 4. Change the law to allow retailers to have enhanced powers of citizens arrest. What would you suggest? The UK seems to have the most lenient policy towards shoplifting , probably because of other demands on the police force. On the plus side, they may have more time for it now that non-crime hate incidents will no longer be investigated. Other countries, such as the USA have much more sever punishment as does Singapore where repeat offenders or aggravated cases can be sentenced to up to 3 years in prison, a fine, or both.
