Jennys
Last week I was expecting a parcel of books to be delivered. On Thursday evening I discovered further down the road a large empty box addressed to me which had obviously been left on our doorstep by the carrier while we were out and then stolen, torn open and the contents removed and taken. Earlier in the week another expected parcel had supposedly been delivered but was nowhere to be found - I now assume that must have also been stolen from the doorstep. Yesterday I also noticed a couple of piles of clothes in the next road to ours and torn open charity bags which had obviously been taken from people's doorsteps. So please be careful, there are thieves about, sadly, who would even steal from charities. Fuschia
The same has happened to us, parcels gone missing or torn open and contents taken. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2608-thefts-from-doorstep/#findComment-79024 Share on other sites
Cassius
You can insist that parcels should not be left and that a signature is required so they HAVE to go to a neighbour - then they are supposed to put a leaflet through your door telling you where it is. Depends on the carrier though. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2608-thefts-from-doorstep/#findComment-79025 Share on other sites
Elfy
My vegetable box was stolen from outside my flat before Xmas. They were obviously expecting something a little more valuable/ exciting than a few courgettes and a cabbage. Annoying though. ????
I left a whole load of empty cans and old newspapers by my front door to re-use for something and someone pretending to be from Southwark council wandered off with the whole lot. Be alert people. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2608-thefts-from-doorstep/#findComment-79122 Share on other sites

sallyfran
I had a parcel stolen from the front garden last Friday. The carriers put a note through the door saying it had been left behind the dustbins, but it was taken before I got home. Might have been opportunistic on the part of somebody who saw it being left, but maybe something a bit more systematic is going on. All they got was 50 seed potatoes - useless to them but annoying for me. Louisa
When will people realise this is south east London and not Chiswick? Of course things will be stolen if they are left in the open. Sue
:))Well I once had a parcel delivered when I was out, and a notice put through my door "parcel in dustbin"And it was !!!!Luckily tbe dustbin people hadn't been ........I also once had a parcel left on my wall which was nicked - it was a book from (sorry) Reader's Digest, and the title was something along the lines of "How to Get Things for Free" :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2608-thefts-from-doorstep/#findComment-79152 Share on other sites

KalamityKel
Jennys have the local police been informed of such goings on? I know it doesn't help now but if it's an on going problem maybe an extra police presence around the area may put the offending people off. :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2608-thefts-from-doorstep/#findComment-79184 Share on other sites
AnotherPaul
Judging by the lack-lustre attitude of the local rozzers we'd be better off arming Louisa and turning her loose on the mean streets of Ed - which are so much more dangerous than Chiswick where no crime ever happens. lozzyloz
I think some of you are misreading Louisa's post. Personally I think Group 4 should deliver my Abel and Cole box. *Bob*
You could have your organic box delivered to any old doorstep in Chiswick (which is crime-free) and collect it from there at your leisure.Though I'm not sure why anyone who lives within reach of SE22's fruit and vegeries would want to order from the massively overpriced Abel & Cole?! lozzyloz
It's not all that bad. You may remember I posted a while ago that I dropped my wallet around the notorious Northcross Rd frontline and was truly grateful when some kindred spirit posted it through my letter box later that day. Must have been a day tripper from Chiswick.Isn't Neighbourhood Watch replaced by Safer Neighbourhoods? Less chance of being mugged but more likely to have your Littlewoods Direct delivery pinched? We need armed posties. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2608-thefts-from-doorstep/#findComment-79193 Share on other sites

Louisa
I've been to Chiswick on many ocassions and found the hospitality second to non. I bet I could leave my unspeakables on the line there without fear of some criminal crossdresser fingering my line at any hour of the day or night. Louisa. Pickle
My sister-in-law was visiting Chiswick, loaded her kids in the car and drove off leaving her buggy on the footpath. Realised minutes later, retraced her steps, and it was gone. Dangerous place! If she'd done the same in ED it would have still been there, it wasn't a Bugaboo or Phil 'n' Teds, so no re-sale value on the buggy black market... Jennys
No I haven't reported this to the police (either East Dulwich or even Chiswick) though I phoned and asked the companies who sent the goods to take the matter up with their carriers, given that I had asked for the parcels not to be left on the doorstep but given to a neighbour or taken to the sorting office or depot if we were not in. It does seem that a lot of them can't be bothered to go to a neighbour, fill in a form and put that through the door - far easier to just dump the stuff on the doorstep. Some carriers seem worse than others although I am not sure if I can say on public forum which ones have done this sort of thing to me.
