Can anyone give me a rough idea of the hourly rate (if that's how it's charged) of breakfast and after-school clubs for our local primary schools? Would like to know specifically re Goodrich but also interested in others.

Also would like to know the times available, and what sort of activities go on.

Thanks

My Son used to go to St John's breakfast club which was ?3 per day from 8am. they get a choice of cereals/toasts and have games/activities before school. He used to also go to Rainbow after school club which was approximately ?8.50 per day, but cheaper to pay for the full week than 4 days and ran until 6pm. Here they had a snack and a drink (fruit/jam tart usually or a hot dog on Fridays), various activities games/crafts/art/dance and occasional visitors like fire brigade/dance teacher (very occasional though). I know Rainbow has places as I still speak to the lady that runs it but probably too far away for you. Hope it helps give you a bit of an idea though.

My 2 are at breakfast and after school club at Goose Green school. I pay when I use it but there are sibling/full time discounts. I pay ?2 per child breakfast club and they get a choice of hot food/cereal/toast etc and a range of activities such as model making and football, and lots of stickers (I ate all my breakfast etc etc!) it opens at 7.30am and is on the school site.

The after school club is also on site which means that they can go to after school classes (ballet, drumming whatever) and then taken to after school club where they have board games, arty crafty activities, a small range of hot and cold tuck (included in price) computers (with strict time limit!) and organised physical games and Friday film club, they take the children to Grove Vale library for Chatter books and maths club. That is open til 7pm and is ?7.50 per child. I was really worried about it as they had always had a nanny but they love the range of activities and the fact that they see their friends and make new ones across the school years and that it means mum or dad always pick them up. Also the school run the after school club which means that it is joined up in terms of communication and staff.

Breakfast Club

The Goodrich Breakfast Club runs in the upper hall from 8am-9am and is run by Goodrich Learning Mentor Kamil Szoma. Kamil and his team serve hot breakfast, cereal, juice plus organised activities, all for ?2.50 a day. The Club is proving very popular but we do have some spaces left. If you would like your child to attend (for 1 or up to 5 days), then please contact Kamil via the school office.

Parents wishing to arrange after school care should contact Gumboots After School Club, a community organisation who provide an after school club on the school premises with a collection service from the classes. I think this is ?9/day and runs 3.30-6 but worth checking direct with Gumboots, also for details of what they do. The man that runs it (Dave) seems really helpful and friendly.

There is also a local provider of pre/afterschool care that pick-up /drop off at local primaries. They are called Palmtrees (rated "good" by Ofsted), and their number is 7732 0117 -just mentioning this as school afterschool clubs can be full!

My son goes to Heber which luckily has a breakfast club (from 7.30am), (downside, cost ?10!). I think that's so expensive and by the looks of it other local primary schools have a cheaper service.

After school club is also ?10 at Heber which I don't think is too bad as it's on till 6pm and they do loads of different activities. You get a week for ?35 (per club).

It's great that so many primary schools provide breakfast club and after school club and I don't mind paying for that service even if ?10 for breakfast club is pushing it a bit!

Hi there,

About to adopt and in process of looking for reception class for oldest.

Have appointment to visit Heber and as you say your son goes there I was wondering if you could let us know your opinion.

Would also appreciate any other reviews/recommendations of primary schools in East Dulwich area.

Thanks very much.

    • I think the only way to sort this is to ban loud fireworks for private sale (and preferably ban fireworks altogether except for public displays). I don't know whether that has implications I'm not aware of eg I have no idea how many people are involved in firework manufacture.
    • Very happy to recommend Tommy Rooney's excellent work again. He's been servicing my boiler for years now, but this time he swiftly fixed a leaky radiator valve. I put out a call on Friday and it was repaired - and improved - by Monday evening. I asked him if he had an opinion about my other radiators, and he reassured me as he pointed out the leaky bathroom rad was a non-standard length, which was why it caused problems. There followed a brief but detailed history of improvements in regulations for valves and fittings over the years, so that I could understand precisely what the issue was. How many plumbers will do that for you? "I've just got a memory for weird things," says Tommy modestly.
    • Wanted 2 x Adult and 1 x Children tickets for Dulwich fireworks tonight please!
    • Labour have changed a number of things overnight.   1. VAT on school fees - this has resulted in 25,000 moving until state education. 2. Increasing NICs adding billions to the cost of going to work. 3. Introducing the Employment Rights Bill causing employers to stop hiring. This and item 2 have added 100,000 people to the unemployment scrapheap. These are also causing businesses to relocate further harming the economy. 4. Scrapping all the small boats deterrents meaning 60,000 illegal migrants have arrived in small boats since they were elected. 5. Dishing out huge public sector payroses with no conditions so we have a massively increased payroll and doctors etc arestill going out on strike. 6.changed IHT and non domicile tax rules causing 16,500 millionaires to leave the UK and stop paying any tax here at all forever. 7. Alongside 6, leaving the budget up until an historically late period after the last budget has caused a house price crash, killing the market and decimating government stamp duty receipts. 8. Their profligate borrowing (£100bn extra in just one year) to fund all their lavish promises means the government can now only borrow at the highest ever yields on records. They are more beholden to the bond markets than Liz Truss was. 9. The rate of inflation has doubled under this government. It was a healthy 2% when they came in. For most of the last year, as a result of all of the above it is now nearly 4%.   These are all decisions the Labour government took that have immediate cause and effect.  Its no good harking back to 15 years ago. The current administration was gifted the fastest growing economy in the G7 and within 15 months they have destroyed it.    And things are only going to get worse this winter.
