I am new (ish) to this area, and a few months ago I had a problem with bed bugs in our rented apartment. After paying a fortune for a professional company to eradicate the problem, I did seem to bug free. But I have started getting bites again, and have found evidence that the dread bugs are back!! I have noticed that there seem to be a lot of mattresses out on the street of the apartment blocks around SE22, and after doing some research on the internet, found that apparently SE22 is a bed bug hot spot! Has anyone else had a problem with this, and do you have any tips on how to avoid future problems?

I had a seriously bad case of bedbugs a few years ago. It was sorted thanks to the guys at Bed Bugs Ltd (bed-bugs.co.uk) who were amazing. They really know their stuff and they were really committed to helping us get bug-free.

In any case I recommend going with a company that specialises in bed bugs rather than a catch-all exterminator. Also, you should ask your neighbours if they've had any problems, it's likely the bugs came back because they've infested more than one apt in your building. Unfortunately, if this is the case, unless your neighbours are also willing to pay up for treatment you might find you're getting reinfested all the time...

I'll second this company. They were bloody brilliant about 4 years ago when we had some ... Also agree with cosmonaut's point about maybe being reinfested from another flat.

Good luck

Yes I had thought about the fact it could be another apartment, but there are so many (8 connecting apartments), that I can't imagine that they would all be prepared to have the treatment. I will certainly give that company a try (thank you cosmonaut and hpsaucy) as I have heard good things about them elsewhere too. It's such a pain and an expensive one too! As for the comment about not making it public, during my research, the incidence of bed bugs has increased dramatically, by 500% over the last 10 years in major cities such as London. Surely by attempting to tackle this very public problem openly is the only way forward?!

    • A huge shout-out to Andy! He’s helped us several times now and is an absolute gem. He doesn't just do the easy jobs; he finds solutions to the difficult, non-obvious problems that others might miss. He is very hard working, incredibly friendly, great with pets, and always leaves the place better than he found it. 10/10!
    • Here to add my voice to those praising Temi. She just painted my dilapidated home office in ED and did a fantastic job in just two days in a much lighter colour, including woodwork, damp blocker and filling holes. She's efficient, on time and I barely heard a peep out of her; she just got on with the job. I recommend her wholeheartedly.
    • The residents & families of the estate are getting parking fines,  out of the blue , the residents parking system waa changed from Southern to Sippi with cameras put up in the car park and people issued with fines entering the estate for more then 10 minutes , families can no longer pick up or drop off family due to a new 10 minute wait fine. Residents are appealing with Sippi and Southern as there was no letters to consult of a parking change,  new waiting times or fines, delivery drivers are getting fines everyday,  if you get a fine,  appeal it, there is no signage up to say about parking fines or waiting time
