help / advice needed in creating website

I'm a freelance writer and want to create a website showcasing the kind of stuff I do - I'm pretty clueless with technology so am daunted about doing it myself - the kind of thing I had in mind was something like this

http://www.beckyhowardmedia.com (this is a freelance journalist's website that I found online)

is there a template I can use / is there someone local / web designer who can help with this kind of thing?

Much as it pains me to say so (since I occasionally make websites), unless you particularly want little animations, you'd be better off with a blog that you could update yourself.

Have a look at Wordpress. It's easy and free.
