Hi StraferJack,

Thankyou for the constructive post. Maybe before you posted you should have asked for the facts and we would have been more than happy to fill you in on the situation. There have been a few stories circulating along with the notice placed in the window of soup dragon which do not tell the full or true story. We are not 'scrubbing' around for temporary tennants. Number 106 will be up and running as a new business in the spring of next year with tennants already secured. Instead of leaving the unit empty over the Xmas period we thought we would let a business, preferably a local one, have the chance to use it during a busy period in a location which is prime and without a long and massive level of commitment. This is the reason we have posted on the forum,we realise its a great window for local people and businesses to grasp the chance. Thanyou for the post though, we will take what you said onboard.

So it's not true then that Soup Dragon wanted to stay but couldnt because the rent was increased beyond what they could pay? That is what the staff in Soup Dragon said had happened and has happened to some other businesses along L lane.

Spring comes. Summer arrives. A business in situ wants to stay, but gets a measly few weeks extension to June

What happened to this secure tenant and why not give the current tenants a longer run?

Are the rumours of the arrival of PAUL unfounded? They are a baker/cafe small chain for those who are not familiar. A few people have mentioned this name to me now and I am yet to go into one. I checked the planning application online and it will apparently be changing from A1 retail to A3 restaurant?

    • we actually need growth. It may be counter intuitive, but we need investment.   my example is about poor financial management, be it personal or central. I'm referring to poor government financial management.
    • This is to conflate household budgets with government budgets. They are very different things  a large part of the anger felt across the country is the decline in public services after a decade and a half of austerity.  You cut more you get more ugly anger  Of course people need to be persuaded to pay more - but that is only realistic path. You cut more you will find out the hard way

    • I think one could argue that degrading public services / infrastructure is what's led to our current, slow economic decline. We've spent 14 years trying austerity, and it's proven counter productive to growth and productivity. A successful economy and society needs good transport, education and early intervention health care. On taxes, it depends how you target them. Tax funded spending may be a positive fiscal multiplier. Taxes on work aren't great, or when they hit the poorest (who tend to spend most of what they earn, boosting economic activity). We need a well designed wealth tax (on idle assets), and stronger measures to target avoidance.
