I'm looking for advice. I'm a single, loving mum who feels like she's had it hard over the last 4 years and in the meantime has experienced a diminished lost in all communication with her 13 year old daughter. I'm really, really sad and am reaching out to anyone that may be able to help in any way and hopefully give me hope.

Thank you in advance xxx

Well done for reaching out! It is so hard and I can imagine that lockdown and everything else relating to covid has made things really too.

Is there anything in particular you?d like support with and maybe some people on here can help to point you in the right direction for support? Gingerbread is a great resource. X

Many years ago I joined Gingerbread following a breakup of a relationship. I had a 6 year old daughter at the time.

As time went on I became the Welfare Officer for the local group and found companionship with other single parents.

I met my husband at the group and we have now been married 38 years, we each have a daughter by previous relationships and 'our' daughter

Be strong! You are not alone

It's courageous to speak openly about your feelings as a single mom I look up to you and admire your boldness to speak up

You are far from weak.

So continue ....I will too

Knowing I am not the only single mom out here or there

Speaking as someone who was once a very difficult teenager to loving parents (who also split, causing lots of bitterness and hurt on my part as well as on theirs) please know that she loves you dearly.. She prob won't admit it or even know how much for years to come but bear with it. She's hormonal and every teenager rebels and wants independence, which unfortunately often means pushing parent(s) away.

Hope you get some support, reach out to friends and family - they will hopefully be understanding too xxx

    • I'm in the middle of the civil service pension crisis with no pension for 4 months and counting. No access to the much publicised loans either. I have emailed Helen Hayes several times. It took her 6 weeks to contact Capita on my behalf but no follow up, no reply, she didn't attend the Westminster Hall debate about the issue either. Lots of other MPs are speaking and acting on behalf of their constituents but I've had no joy. Has anyone else please? What works to get help from Helen Hayes?

    • Honestly, the squirrels are not a problem now.  They only eat what has dropped.  The feeders I have are squirrel proof anyway from pre-cage times.  I have never seen rats in the garden, and even when I didn't have the cage.  I most certainly would have noticed them.  I do have a little family of mice which I have zero problem about.  If they stay outside, that's fine with me.  Plus, local cats keep that population down.  There are rats everywhere in London, there is plenty of food rubbish out in the street to keep them happy.  So, I guess you could fit extra bars to the cage if you wanted to, but then you run the risk of the birds not getting in.  They like to be able to fly in and out easily, which they do.
