"Unless its more about the selfish idiots who think that animals are disposable creatures that they can palm off to someone else on a whim, as said above."

Pretty much the point I thought I was making - thanks Katie :-) Plus, once a young animal has outgrown its baby cuteness, it becomes so much harder to rehome and the animal shelters are heaving with unwanted animals already.

Exactly my point - so why bother going to all that trouble trying?

And those poor deluded fools who still think their 4 year old mog is 'cute' should be made to face up to reality, get rid and get a younger model.

A kitten is for cuteness, not for life.

I think woodrot's point is that we've had a disproportionate number of threads similar to this.

Should pet owners should be more responsible? Yes. Does the subject warrant the number (and intensity) of debates we've had on these pages? No way.

So that the forum can go back to its true business of utterly inane news threads and threads about watching threads about wool?

Should pet owners be more responsible? Yes.

And should the Forum keep reminding them to continue to be responsible? Yes

In your opinion Jeremy, if threads like these help in any way, then its a good thing, some of us like me really love and respect our animals and hate to see them being got rid of in this throw away society, I spose if people don't want to read these threads or comment then they don't have to, theres plenty of things on here for everybody

Is that any worse than being a sluice for the out-pourings of the emotionally incontinent?

"And should the Forum keep reminding them to continue to be responsible? Yes."

Oh it should, should it? And you are the voice of the forum?

The reason this thread is getting a hard time is that it is not about ED (hence it's place in the lounge alongside the blue wool ephemera) but rather about a woman in Putney doing something (legal) that someone objects to.

Others do not.

I do not.

Maybe some people need 'reminding' that they don't speak for everybody.

Including yourself of course, maxxi?

This thread is about our throwaway culture and the need for instant gratification at any cost

Maybe Sabrina IS building a rear extension with a sun deck (overlooking the river) maxxi.

Absolutely including me.

I speak for myself and none other which is why I don't pronounce on what the Forum should say or do -

I do not sprawl over the Family Room criticising talk of pushchairs and rarely make facile jokes in the Drawing Room but this is the Lounge and I like to give my inanities free range -

@ Nette - I think I have seen pictures of Sabrina's rear extension and whilst there is a joke to be made about its suitability for her pussy I would hate to inflame things.

It would be rash.

Now that's inanity.

You're clogging up the forum with your unwanted critique of others' posts. Please desist.

I think this thread is not so much about the animals, but the mother and whether or not she should be bowing to her child's every whim.

Forget for a moment that we are talking about animals.

Little girl begged mum for a toy she really wanted, then later begged mum to buy the latest version and sell the old one on ebay. What should mum do?

I know who's posts I'd rather read.

Hi everyone!

We're making a documentary about people who'd step over a body in the street but spend their life savings on a cat with a hurty paw. If you'd like to take part please email our production team [email protected]

We can't pay you but everyone who takes part gets a free pouch of Felix.

NB.. I think we probably qualify as the latter, but that doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

Ah I see. People are only allowed an opinion about categories above a certain level - so far we have paedophile celebrities and corpses lying in the street. Can someone enlighten me about what is acceptable in terms of being able to have an opinion.

For example, I assume it is ok to have feeling about mass murder but is a simple mugging disallowed? If not then does it have to involve physical violence? Is it ok to talk about burglary but not about fraud?

The rules here are somewhat unclear.

I'm not sure everyone agrees with you chillaxed.

There are two classes of posters on the Forum - those who are allowed to trawl (or do I mean troll?) all over it with inanities, often at midnight, and the rest of us. The latter group includes tree-huggers, cat/dog owners, buggy-pushers, in other words, your usual ED riff-raff.

Then there's the Drawing Room, which is a sacred space.

Enter at your peril, and do not on any account dare to joke therein.

But that's rather unfortunate, as many of the contributions in there are often more LOL than even Salsaboy's jokes.

    • I'm London born and bred and have always considered myself streetwise having grown up in Notting hill (pre getrification) and I lived on the border of Harlesden (kensal green) in the 90's  when it was pretty sketchy round there .and I spent much of the 80's and early 90's in downtown New York.. I would walk everywhere at all hours of the day and night and never felt particularly uneasy largely because I was always mindful of my surroundings and walked with 'purpose'. I don't know wether its because I'm now so much older but I don't feel as comfortable as I used to walking round London. Today I was in the West end and I made sure to carry my bag on the opposite arm to that facing the kerb and felt uneasy when I saw people wizzing around on limebikes or scooters close to the kerb..I never got my phone out at all...I never used to feel like this but just recently I've had friends witness phone and bag snatching in central london in broad daylight..apparently it happened so fast in both instances there was nothing anyone could do to help..One phone snatching was during the tube strike 7.30am two guys on bikes grabbed a mans phone..My friend took the victim to a nearby hotel to sit down and recover the hotel said due to the tube strike they had witnessed many duo's of youth out very early on bikes aware that there were more pedestrians around at that time with their phones out trying for Ubers or looking at directions. I would'nt say I feel 'unsafe' I just feel more aware of being a possible target for crime than formerly. I don't know if this is due to being older or due to reading the press.
    • The fact everyone has had a CCTV camera in their pockets for the last 15+ years has done a huge amount to prevent and mitigate random drunken violence.  Thugs can't get away with what they used to anymore.
    • Do you mean that there are only very few trades people and that all of their thousands of happy customers post glowing reviews but most of them have only ever posted once to recommend said trade person on the trade person's own thread?   If so, I agree it's mysterious.
    • Oh now you're coming over all defensive. What happened to the nice Sue, because since the early part of the year your approach seems to have changed and you've become much more challenging. No you have not broken any rules and even if you had why would I involve Admin, that's a ludicrous thing to say.  Take care Sue.
