?

I dont know who that is directed to as the english is not very clear but what has mobile phones got to do with anything?

the next part is not clear but the editing posts was that refering to yourself?

The cakes themselves are generally fine. I like cake a lot.

But it's a temporary fad which reached saturation point long ago. And the word itself is an annoying Americanism which somehow worked it's way into the english vernacular.

I expect it will all die down next year, along with "keep calm and" merchandise.

Jeremy,

Nothing wrong with the word cupcake - what about the words fairy cake?

Some of them are tasty, some aren't. The same with slices of cake. They should be eaten the same day I believe, but too many people sell them beyond their eat by date.

It's the over-decorating I can't stand. You are going to eat them so why bother? You don't ice a muffin usually, so why the over-decorating malarkey with the cupcake?

Jeremy,

Not sure why the word cupcake is annoying, it just means a cake made in a paper baking cup; and fairy cakes are much smaller and cupcakes bigger. Cupcakes seem to be traditionally slathered with more icing than a fairy cake.

Maxxi,

There are recipes out there on the internet for microwave cakes made in mugs if you get the urge.

Not sure if any of you have kids, but cake sale days at school are hilarious, if ever there was something to set off competitive Mum syndrome, cupcakes are it. Needless to say I just send my kids along with money to buy cakes, and save myself the embarrassment.

If ever my kids force me to make cakes for birthdays I buy Tesco basics un-iced fairy cakes and Dr Oetker icing in a pressurised can. Job done.

oh, competitive baking is rife EVERYWHERE - schools, workplaces, you name it.

I think the reason that cupcakes have been singled out FOR SO MUCH HATE is because, well...basically what rosie said, the bloody edible glitter, their sickly, tasteless, twee-ness. Whilst some of them may look scrumptious, they generally don't deliver. The ubiquity of cupcake businesses. Cupcakes for EVERY occasion etc. Cupcakes for Ladeeeez (ha!) Prosecco cupcake quids? Victoria Sponge AS A CUPCAKE anyone? Mini cupcakes. Cupcake-sized cupcakes. Giaaaaaaant Cupcakes. you get the picture.

hear hear for a fairy cake and butterfly cake revival!

Ms. Cupcake in Brixton Village has a good selection of different flavours. They are all vegan. The flavours aren't too far out, for example, she had peanut butter and chocolate, bounty (as in bounty bar) lemon, vanilla, amongst others that I can remember. All of her products are vegan. She has a website. She provided free cupcakes for locals after the riots summer 2011. They are tasty and not too much effort has gone into them, which I like.

    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
