Did I at any point claim to have been a witness? There was no shortage of media coverage at the time quoting a witness- the driver pulled out of a petrol station forecourt on to the road and hit Wiggins.

My point was how lenient sentences are for drivers who injure cyclists.

Thing is, I'm looking from the perspective of a cyclist hit by a car 12 weeks ago- entirely the drivers fault. While I'm now a tetraplegic, the police investigating the incident tell me the driver will get points and a nominal fine, at best. Hence my interest in the progress of the Bradley Wiggins incident.

Christ that's terrible. So sorry. Probably last thing on your mind but it may be worth speaking to senior officer about this ..or at least getting a loved one to do so. Also you may want to consider a private civil action ? Best wishes.

I set up a thread to do a collection for mulley since their injury mentioned above but this is awkward - Did I get it wrong? no-one donating?

This all seems to have gone off track a bit. There is a documentary on Weds on BBC1 which is already being described as oversensationalising the supposed war between cyclists and cars. The trailers do seem a bit too close to life.

Well I stayed in especially to watch tonight's BBC1 documentary.

One of last Saturday's broadsheets said that the Germans have one word for 'an annoying person' where we have about a 100. To use profanities as an example the f and s word can be used in a dozen ways from likable rogue, annoying but right, to evil and twisted. The German word translates as "needs a punch in the face". And the one German word was 100% appropriate for the 24 year old cyclist who featured for about 20 minutes. But this was supposed to be sensationalist programme so they had to get an arse in.

The rest was reasonably balanced and a bit emotional at times.

Just when I was saying you need some cyclist on cyclist action, up some popped. And then that it was short of pedestrain walking across cyclist (and ditto when cyclist runs over innocent pedestrain) up a couple of clips pop.

Lots of stuff to make me think that it was a good thing not to provoke motorist's for fear of road rage (or have an escape plan if you do). I got involved in three what should have been minor scirmishes in the 90s, pre helmet-cam and at a time when there were far less bikes on the road, yet came close to being punched, run over, stabbed or what-ever (a "sorry mate' would have been fine from the motorist).

The other thing is never never never try to cut through an arctic that is, or may, turn left, as that is "Good night Vienna".

It is a shame that that the BBC did not show both the campaign to get cyclists to see what it is like from a cab of a HGV, and ditto HGV drivers going out on a bike. TFL/GLA are doing a lot.

And irrespective of my moral high ground that I am a perfect cyclist, even I am tempering some of my behaviour; in part influenced by the good behaviour of most cyclists no matter the generalisms.

In the name of science, I've cycled to work for 2 days without a helmet and discovered that cars took no discernable difference in care when zooming past me.

I have, however, noticed that the rather fierce looking metal handle things curling upwards from the outer edges of my handlebars have a calming effect on car drivers who notice them, presumably as they look as though they could do some damage to their paintwork!

I was driving through the backstreets of Camberwell yesterday about 5.30pm, so nice and dark. Saw an attractive young lady on her bicycle with no lights on, so wound down my window and said very politely "I can't see you as you have no lights on your bike". Got told in a refined voice to "F*ck off, it's none of your business".

In a way I hope she gets run over by an HGV to teach her a lesson.

I have all the lights I need, the helmet, culy handlebars and the hi-viz jacket, but still feel a bit insecure on the roads. Do you think I should get a few of these to help build up my confidence?

I quite often play dumb when I meet a fellow cyclist with no lights if we're stopped. I tend to ask if they've realised that they've forgotten to turn their lights on. They don't seem to be as defensive as they get when you point out how f'ing stupid they are to be going around with no lights.

I have some sympathy for those who get caught out in the late summer when the nights are just drawing in but at this time of year there's no excuse not to think of lights. In the old days where a light weighed more than a brick, you could almost understand it but with current LED ones, it's not hard to carry one around.
