This year, who knows what the rules will be for gathering etc.

I'm suggesting something similar to the NHS clap. We all gather (dressed warm!) and cheer to the new year and to each other?

I'm thinking mulled wine in flasks!

It's easy where I am, because it's a little close with few people. But it would be great if this took off!

Sadly, it sounds like a micro super spreader opportunity to me.

I think it?s well intentioned, but you only need a few ?drunk by midnight? people giving it the ?come on a hug can?t hurt can it?!? and we?re back in danger again.

Maybe if it?s done early enough, where every other person is sober, then great.

2020 is a big year to see out, hopefully it?s done safely.

Happy New Year in anticipation.

Sounds like an awful idea. Dress warmly and cheering the new year with mulled wine in flasks? What will you do after that? Go inside and sing Auld Lang Syne and eat gingerbread? This aint downtown abbey.

Ill be having a large, debauched party at mine with a hired soundsystem and lighting rig that will go on until at least midday the next day. Lets get rotten to see off this year of chaos!

Wow, Steven - what happened to your urbane, suit-wearing, refugee from Surbiton persona? https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,2154894,2154894#msg-2154894

I see you're going for a more down & grimey vibe now, or is that just the rejuvenating effect that moving to ED has had for you?

I'm quite capable of not hugging my neighbours!

    • Well thanks for enriching the conversation.  Would you chuck Fah - rage in too for his tax avoidance on his property?   I expect it was lead story on Jeremy Vine too.  Doesn't make it a story, just a bit more of BBC tabloid style sensationalism.  There are numerous real news stories in the UK and across the world.  And now, apt for Halloween, you have summoned up the ghost of Louisa. So for the third time, will you now eat humble pie?
