THIS JUST IN: An 'inside source' has confirmed to me that White Stuff indeed will be opening their doors in the old Walsh site. White Stuff are actually going to take two of the 3 shops over and sub-let the third to another company (potentially another small Clapham clothing store). The delays have been experienced because the building owner - you guessed it; Parkhill Properties - has tried to stop them taking all three Walsh stores over as they obviously have a wealthy client that wants to open their doors in the third site that White Stuff are going to sub let.

White Stuff has now won this battle and will open their doors and retain the rights to sub-let the third store. Unfortunately because the fit out was delayed, the White Stuff fit out engine is now fitting out other stores throughout London so the ED White Stuff now won't be fitted out until late April, opening its doors in early May.

So as we see this appears to be the second story I've heard in a month where Parkhill are not only buying properties up in LL, but are trying to bully their existing tennants into moving out of or forfeiting their already leased properties so that PHP can let them to clients willing to pay a premium (i.e. Starbucks etc). Savages...

Dear Ed,

Whilst I agree that PHP represent the devils work, may I go back to a thread I started previously about house prices. If you (and everyone else) in the area is all up for getting the most out of the rising house prices, how can you be upset by PHP ethos of essentially destroying the prospect of more small businesses moving into the area. Same principles apply and the sooner everyone in the area accepts responsibility for letting estate agents make this a prime area for rich, cash paying property investors, developers and the like, the sooner we will stop companies like PHP controlling the real estate (although may be a bit late now).

Lets hope white stuff give the third store to a nice independent retailer on a low rent just to piss off PHP.

Jamie

Does anyone know anything about Parkhill Properties, for example a correspondence address or the name of the managing director? I know it might not achieve a great deal in the short term but perhaps if someone sent a formal letter of complaint to Parkhill they may come to realise that they are causing bad feeling here. What does concern me is the silence and inaction of Southwark's Planning dept, Parkhill are not merely buying in ED they are also buying up parts of Camberwell High Street and if Southwark don't start paying attention they may find they end up with whole areas which do not fit with in their development policy.
To go back to the original topic,it is definately white stuff,it was confirmed by a courier delivering to walshes, shop name on the delivery note, white stuff.Amelie, i admire your approach to parkhill, but its been done and mr parkhill does not care about the good of the area, only the healthy bank balance he probably admires every 5 minutes.

    • I would leave London, or at a push move back to north London. In SE London if you want to get away in a car you are trapped, always an hour to go the first 10 miles, chugging up to the M4 or round the south circular, which is really just a line someone drew connecting a load of roads. and I know there are trains but first you have to get to those mainline stations, unless you only want to leave London to go to Kent. which I don't.
    • It was you who  made it personal in the first place,  Jazzer. You said you didn't feel safe in the streets,  and you said you didn't go to Central London because you didn't feel safe there. So are you now saying that wasn't "personal"? "Fire from the hip." Another interesting choice of words 🙄 I'm not "demanding" anything! I asked you some perfectly reasonable questions in  response to your own statements. None of which you have answered. Never mind. It seems to be pointless having a discussion with you. It's long past my bedtime. I'm going to turn on my sleep app  and go to sleep 😴💤
    • Hi Forumites, This afternoon someone in a dark blue/black saloon car collided with my parked car on Thompson Road, SE22 9JR. I have a neighbour’s doorbell cam footage of the collision at 14:30 19/09/2025 but am unable to identify the registration plate. If anyone has footage of a car travelling down Thompson Road towards Crystal Palace Road at that time please PM me. Of course if the Perp would like to confess they can also PM me. Thankyou.
