  1. James Have you seen the most recent edition of Private Eye? The Rotten Boroughs column, page 14 column 3 "Olympic Gold". To say that Southwark does not come well out of the report would be an understatement. The Head of Legal Services needs to be instructed to investigate what has gone on.
  2. That shop is owned by a Chinese bank according to the Land Registry.
  3. Tom I think the best thing might be to contact the Adult Services team at Southwark and ask to speak to the team that deals with elderly vulnerable people and/or adult mental health. They may be able to identify the lady and offer her some support following an assessment of her needs.
  4. Elizabeth's suggestion that a bell be rung to signify closing time is not unreasonable and is common practice in parks up and down the country, Lincoln's Inn Field being an example in point.
  5. If Southwark is being unhelpful/breaching its statutory duty you should take this up with James Barber and ask him to investigate.
  6. My Dad told me that he could recall talk of extending the tube all the way to Crystal Palace when he was a child. He was born in 1946. It ain't ever gonna happen people.
  7. Kevin McCloud is married, he and his wife have two children and he has two older children from a previous relationship.
  8. Junad If you want to read about rude bus drivers search the EDF Forum for the thread about the 185 bus and its drivers. Trust me, the discourtesy offered to you was mild in comparison. I think you're very brave to post on here and are to be commended.
  9. No, but you have to meet the statutory criteria before you can buy the freehold in any event.
  10. Edward Alleyn was not a degenerate, he was merely typical of his time. His bequest was not modified, his will was broken under statute by the Charity Commission because its effect had become to produce an ever-increasing fund which the will as drafted did not permit the trustees to spend. Alleyn's School was created as a direct result of the Charity Commission's action. The intake of the Edward Alleyn Foundation schools has always been wide-ranging geographically speaking, they also have long-standing arrangements for efficient swapping of pupils from e.g. St Paul's and Marlborough. The coach parking is a problem which the school could do more than it does at the moment to address, telling teachers who like the pupils come from areas some distance away that they cannot park in the streets around the school is unreasonable and unkind.
  11. I think you should write again to Annie Sheppard explaining that although you understand the Council has taken a view given your neighbour's age what should have happened is that someone from the Council should have come and inspected the work, spoken to you in person and to your neighbour, and then made a decision. This would have been both the professional, statutorily required and polite thing to do. As it is your neighbour has breached the planning laws, her tenancy agreement and your right to quiet enjoyment as well as devalued your landlady's property. You need to make clear to Annie S that if the Council does not come and remove the illegally installed paving from their land within seven days you will instruct a solicitor to issue proceedings for breach of statutory duty, and you will also notify the Local Government Ombudsman of a complaint of maladministration by the Council.
  12. @fazer71 I think you should write out a detailed account of exactly what has happened regarding maintenance of your flat by Southwark over the years, this will take some time. You should send this to Southwark's CEO, the Head of Legal Services, the District Auditor and the Local Government Ombudsman making clear that you require a no holds barred investigation to be carried out, a full explanation provided along with an unreserved apology and that you be compensated for maladministration. Venting on the forum is indeed therapeutic but you need to take this up with the relevant authorities.
  13. As well as writing to MPs and Councillors the LB Southwark representatives who allegedly misrepresented the results of the consultation on BBC Radio London should be reported to the CEO of Southwark for gross misconduct. I would also suggest that people ask the Local Government Ombudsman to investigate how this consultation has been handled, and a letter to the Head of Legal Services pointing out that the consultation appears both to have been pre-judged and subsequently misrepresented, both of which are unlawful, would not go amiss either.
  14. I thought the first mention of Dulwich is in the Domesday Book.
  15. Make a note of the license plate number and report him to the police.
  16. Dear Mabel2001 I suggest that you take this up directly with Southwark's Chief Executive Annie Shepherd and ask her to investigate.
  17. I was joking, which I would have thought would be obvious. However, it is worth pointing out that several MPs are on record as stating that proper access to water via TW or any other company is a human right.
  18. Has anyone considered mentioning the dread phrase 'breach of the Human Rights Act' to Thames Water? That should focus their attention.
  19. @PhilipHenslowe Have you taken this up with the Bishop at St George's Cathedral? I think you should, and if you get no joy take it up with Archbishop Nichols at Westminster Cathedral. Ultimately I think your complaint lies with Ecclesia Dei at the Vatican.
  20. John K Allen's only exists because of the forcible rescheming of Dulwich College by the newly formed Charity Commission in the late 19th century. It was set up as a grant maintained school and would have had very little money of its own. I think you are confusing Alleyn's with the Edward Alleyn Foundation of God's Gift at Dulwich which really is the largest local charity and the owner of a great part of the land in and around Dulwich. The person you need to speak to is Bryan Green, he is the leading local historian in Dulwich and wrote a paper on the history of the Edward Alleyn estate. His family still own the stationers in Dulwich Village and he should be contactable via the business.
  21. I don't think criticism by the FBI is anything to worry about but rather a badge of honour. I attended a talk given by Alec Jefferies, who carried out the work that led to DNA profiling, and I'll take his word for it over the FBI any day.
  22. Anyone who feels that the Council has butchered their hedge or damaged items that belong to them is free to make a complaint of criminal trespass and criminal damage to the police.
  23. @SimonM I make no assumptions at all, I worked for local authorities as a legal adviser and none of the Heads of Legal Services to whom I reported would ever have let this situation get so out of hand.
  24. @SimonM LB Southwark, according to the Mail, held an enquiry. It is very unlikely that the Legal Services department didn't know about it, they would have been asked to advise on the applicable law. Therefore, the Head of Legal Services could and should have put a stop to the whole business.
